It really is very sad to see how low things have become for England. I remember reading somewhere in the spring that they were soon mothballing a large part of their Navy. For me that really said they were at the end of the line. One thing England always had was a very good Navy. To see that set aside really tells the whole story of decline.

The Brits sailed further, conqured more, made the nautical charts we still use today, brought us the marine chronometer, brought us the modern concepts of economics and industrialisation.

They also civilised the third world and tought it to read.
