THE EARTH

Thanks

Im also under 40 (half of that). What I posted isnt forbidden. Those who dont study means in depth, etc. To have a few quotes is no problem and authentic Rabbis many times incorporate parts from the Zohar as they do with everything else.

Mifletzet:
The Sun & the entire universe revolve around the Earth every 24 hours. This involves superluminal speeds beyond Jupiter, but Einstein, Mach, Bondi and Hoyle etc showed that this is totally acceptable to Relativity & QP.

Tzvi Ben Roshel1:
I dont know much about this (Im guessing neither do most other people), but it wouldn't be wronge to say in a way that the sun and everything does revolve around earth- but not in the physical sense. What I mean is that the sun exists because its needed for the earth, the earth exists because its needed by the plants and animal's etc. They exist for humans and everything exists becuase of the Jews and becuase G-d created the world for everything to reach its tikkun (correction/perfection).
What might be said about Hazal (our Rabbis) in the Talmud is a lot of times not referring to physical things, if it does then its stated as such and their is a lot of proof and statements of science in the Jewish Holy books.

Mifletzet:
Once one starts saying that the Tenach is "not referring to physical things", then you're on the slippery slope of the Deform Movement, who say that Tefillin are only a metaphor, that Kashrus is only spiritual, that Shabbat is only symbolic, that fasting on Yom Kippur isn't literally necessary, it's only the intention that counts etc etc etc!

Nowhere does the Tenach attribute any diurnal or annual motion to the Earth: just the opposite infact!

And according to science, a geocentric, stationary, non-rotating Earth is completely acceptable a way of looking at the universe, not just metaphysically, but in physically hard reality!

I said what Hazal said, and no its not a slippery slope becuase its still following the tradition, you have to know that just reading the Tanah in its plain meaning isnt the Jewish way, one needs commentaries and even more soo a line of tradition and Rabbis who have recieved that tradition from their Rabbis etc etc all the way to Sinai.
The statments of the Rabbis in the Talmud is meant for the most part to teach a lesson. Not every single thing is literal and it doesnt deal with science much, it deals with the moral and also how one is supposed to follow the laws and other things. The brillience of the sages and their scientific knowledge (that was recieved threw tradition from Sinai) is also stated but in the context of the laws that they were teaching and making statements.
