https://hesedyahu.wordpress.com/2019/08/30/not-for-pragmatics/Yeah, so I share Robert Higgs’ pessimism/realism, even though I’m not a libertarian. I have similar sentiments about rejecting the political systems and the seven laws.
Like Higgs, I acknowledge my views are personal. I’m not expecting to change the world, neither am I expecting world affairs and morality to improve. It’s much better and socially acceptable to be immorally practical than to be morally impractical. I can just about attempt to change or improve myself and that’s a realistic endeavour as opposed to attempting to change others.
Am I hopeless? You know what? I think so. No,I know I am. What is there to hope for? The afterlife? You have to enjoy life or want it to crave more. The worldwide divine renovation? How can I long for something I may never see? I’ve never been longsighted with regards to time, always stuck mentally in the here-and-now. That added to my pessimism about humanity means that me and hope live in different countries separated by oceans. We ain’t friends: we don’t talk or write to one another.
Sure, I want to do what is decent rather than support a most morally corrupt system, a hopeless world system. Human attempts to fix things looks like failure. In fact, people are better at devoting strength to propping up current idols and holding the cracks together, even the “good” people. But I have no hope of seeing the renovation.
I honestly don’t know, sometimes. I really don’t. But I have no realistic choice but to keep going.
