As an American and a Jew - I support McCain's statement. He is an honest politician, who simply stated the (politically incorrect) obvious. The US is based on enlightened Christian values. That's why a Jew, or Moslem, can live and prosper here. The sanctimonious attacks on this decent man are unfortunate. Israeli newspapers celebrate Jewish progress all over the world. But McCain, as a Christian, is prohibited from showing an affinity for his coreligionists? "

He said it, but would he do it in real life?

That's the problem, no one really knows. How can we trust leaders such as this ?
