The port which was previously owned by the state is now going through a privatization process, so its under auction. The main contenders were an Emirati company and a Turkish-American consortium. The Emirati offer was rejected so now the Turkish company's consortium are the only contenders left.
The Haifa port is crucial to Israeli imports and exports in times of calm and even more so in times of war.
