Chaim, you nailed the answer in a brief comment. The very fact that people in the world still experience pain and suffering is due to the mystical truth that God's Divine Presence in the world, the Shechinah, is still suffering along with us in our temporary condition of spiritual exile and the continuing destruction of His dwelling place, the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

Shalom, Chaim!  What do you think about Whoopi Goldberg's recent comments about the holocaust?  She said that the Holocaust wasn't about race because it was white on white.  Can you curse her?  Thanks.
