I don't get it. Hasidim are supposed to be those who do more than the letter of the law requires. Isn't failure to live in Israel below the letter of the law for Jews?

They are as you say but they vote for de Blasio & other Democrats not because they hold by their politics or ideology but because of welfare checks,WIC vouchers,medicare,section 8 housing,Pell grants & other government handoits!!!
