I think it was unnecessary and disloyal. The great majority of the Republican congressmen support KM. The few "based" republicans that ousted him basically formed an unholy alliance with the Democrats, and the Democrats didn't support that because it was good for the Republicans.
Having said that it would be interesting if Trump actually becomes or at least stands to be elected for Speaker.

The Democrats think it will embarrass Republcans and hurt them in the polls, but it will hurt Democrats in the meantime because there will be no negotiating with them to give in to Biden.
