Am I the only one alarmed by this story? Putin is issuing a thinly veiled threat to nations seeking to take out Iran's capabilities. No, he didn't directly say he would intervene on Ahmadinejad's side, but it's quite obvious what he means. Russia considers Iran to be a precious source of energy that it wants to control (not to mention the billions of dollars it has invested at Bushehr). Clearly Putin is trying to rattle the saber... but does he mean it?

Iran by itself is unlikely to be able to thwart a U.S./Israeli air force raid, even if lavishly equipped with Russian weapons (which it has been), but Russians using those weapons will be an entirely different story. Even if alcoholic, drug-addicted, and AIDS-infected, the primitive Russian mafiosos will be infinitely more talented and resourceful a foe than any Muslim Nazi.

Putin thinks he can push the whole world around with his newfound oil wealth--not to mention how his ambitious nuke-building program has really gone to his head (at a time when Dubya [ys"vz] is destroying our own deterrent arsenal at an unforeseen rate [thank you, Jorge  ]). He really thinks he owns the globe much like his predecessor and idol, Joseph Stalin, did.

LOL. I am not defending Russia  I know it is not that country that declaired war against other countries. Many bad thing happend before when it was Soviet russia. Now it is another country. In fact Russia went to Iran to say that if they will see them nuking someone it simply kick their asses. You should not have a bad opinoin about Russia. Yes I understand your possition they went to Iran because diplomacy requered. Now there is something you should know about Russia and as I russian man will tell you about it. Russia does not want to take anybody side and wanna be in the golden middle that's they can nagotiate with ANYONE even with hamas or iran but at the same time Russia has a diplomacy with all the arabs America and of course Israel. Right now russia is pro Israel and when Russia sees that hamas oe anyone of those terrosrist terorizing ISRAEL it's always approving Israel possition because they know it's right to defend itself. And as I have said before Diplomacy with both countries Israel and America so for Russia it is not good that there alies got hurt and it will never let it happend

Putin went to Iran to check on his investment. Putin is counting on current ignornace torward the program to last out long enough until Iran finally completes its weapons and uses them. If the US destroys Iran's nuclear program than there's nothing Russia can do about it.

Putin don't care about Iran only Russia; he only use crazy Mullahs as icebreaker against USA Persian Gulf influence and to sell them nuclear/military junk twice the black market price; If the Iran woud be glassed Tomorrow Russia will be first to anex it's Oil fields.

No, I don't think Russia would attack either the U.S. or Israel if either decided to strike Iran.  Russia is concerned with Iran's nuclear development which is why they prevented work from being done on the nuclear bomb making plants.  Russia just doesn't want to tell Iran this explicitly because it wants to remain "neutral" so it can benefit from oil and nuclear trade with Iran.  I don't think Russia would care at all if Iran was struck as long as they would still be able to benefit from their natural resources and as long is it would still guarantee profits from their nuclear deals.  Who knows, maybe Russia would even be happy that the nuclear sites would be bombed because it would be a way for Russia to back out of the nuclear cooperation without making it seem like Russia opposes their nuclear program or opposes Iran in general.

Of course not, they will go to the place that there is money in it, and it's the Arab states, therefor they will join the forces who are fighting it so they will have a reason to take the lands of the Arabs states.
