That is completely false and is an extremely faulty generalization! The whole point of online dating is to meet someone with mutual interests and criteria in order to then go out and meet in person. I certainly have gone out and met many women who I have met and chatted with online. I think you're getting online dating confused with this forum.

Why would you go to bars? What percentage of people there would you say are alcoholics or drug addicts?

People go to bars because bars are basically social gatherings and the potential to meet new people are therefore higher in a bar than randomly in public. You can't count on there being a party to go to, to meet people, a bar is a kind of a party that is always going on. That said, the caliber of people you can meet at a bar varies, it is a roll of the dice.
