We should initiate a campaign to block those scum from entering the U.S.
Perhaps:
1) letter writing/email campaign to the U.S. Dept. of State.
2) same as above to all of our respective Congressmen & Senators
3) campaign to have the Musician's Union (Musician's Protective Assn.) withdraw their approval of the band performing anywhere in this country ((in order to perform here, foreign artists must pay certain royalties to the Musicians' Unions in each local as well as to the central Union).
4) all of the above should present documentation of the band's being banned in Holland, pictures of the "seig heil" salutes of their followers, and English translations of the band's lyrics.
Any other thoughts?

This is simple response to JTF because I'm really confused in video response to Thompson concert in USA I only see hate , hate and nothing but hate to Croatia, croatian people in general (let them all die of cancer) duno what is reason for that.
I will not defend here Thompson and his music because I personally don't like it but here is statment from another site:
Thompson often points out that he is not Ustasha or fascist, a patriot. He publicly says that he means no harm to any other nation, religion or people of different ideology. His songs talk about love for a woman, country, God and family. Thompson stated that there are three things that are most important in his life and in this order: God, family and country.
Thompson denounced Ustasha ideology numerous times.On his concert in Zagreb on 17 June 2007 he stated:
I can command nobody what to wear on my concert, and I have never encouraged anybody to wear a cap or shirt with letter "U". My message to all of them (and that I would say this evening too, if I saw [anything like that]): "Wear insignia of victorious Croatian army from Croatian War of Independence". It is sad that young people return so far in history and fall for propaganda.
During his last tour Bilo jednom u Hrvatskoj, his concert in Frankfurt,Germany(country with the strictest laws against fascism)was also protested against by Jewish Organizations.They determinedly requested that the German government to ban the concert on alleged fascist lyrics. When German government received transcript of Thompson's songs,request for banning the concert was immediately rejected. Same thing happened in New York. On the 17 June 2007 at concert on Maksimir Stadium, Zagreb, Thompson in front of 60 000 people stated that he is not fascist.
English translation of his words:
I'm often attacked and accused, that we are fascists, nazis, and by this you also who listen my music and follow. And we here by say to them that we are not fascists, nazis, but Croatian patriots. We tell them that there are values that we live for. There were people that we will never forget. And there are dreams that we will never give up. Because this country was made, our Croatia, on the blood and suffering of this generation, victorious generation.
So how come you deserve right to fight for your country, religion and other believes but you refuse to give that right to others?
In that video protest you often say that Serbs are "good guys" and they save many lives during WW2 which is pathetic and insult to Belgrade Jews because you take for granted anything what you hear and you didn't check real facts, even I know that Husar will delete this post because it doesn't fit in his theory. here is data from Museum of Genocide in US and Belgrade:
Wandering around the vast, neglected site straddling Belgrade's Sava river, Aleksandar Mosic admits his project is ambitious. Mosic, a former board member of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Yugoslavia, wants to recreate the Belgrade Fair exhibition ground and thus build a proper memorial to the victims of what he describes as "the forgotten concentration camp" the Sajmiste camp that the site was turned into during World War II by the occupying Nazis. Within six months of the camp being set up in December 1941, all 8,000 Jews from Belgrade, as well as from Austria and Czechoslovakia, who had been rounded up and imprisoned there had been transported to gassing trucks and murdered at the site.Most of these were women and children, as thousands of men had been shot dead earlier.
None of the Jews sent to the camp survived. What made Sajmiste unique was its location in clear view of Belgrade's residents.
"It is the only camp in Europe which was so visible; the inmates were not hidden from the view of the rest of the population and that was the intention; to intimidate other Serbs by showing them what was going on inside " says Mosic, chairman of the newly formed Old Fair Memorial Association and author of the book "The Jews in Belgrade." The first phase of the project would see the surviving tower reconstructed and converted into a Holocaust museum containing documents, testimonies and photographs of lost Jews from Serbia. "We want to rescue the memory of the camp and its victims," he says. "There is no monument to the Jews who died or no real education specifically about the Jewish Holocaust."
Before the war there were 10,400 Jews in Belgrade and roughly 16,000 in the whole of Serbia. Almost 90 percent were killed in the Holocaust.
Antisemitic activity in Serbia today
Antisemitic activity in Serbia is usually confined to graffiti on walls and buildings, usually belonging to Jewish individuals and organizations, but sometimes on non-Jewish ones because the perpetrators assume that the Jews control everything. Such activity was reported in many Serbian cities in 2005. For example, on 26-27 January, a memorial plate dedicated to Jewish victims of World War II in Novi Knjazevac was coated with oil paint and a swastika and the words “Jews” (Zhidovi), scrawled on it. Central Belgrade and its surroundings were covered with anti-Zionist/antisemitic posters and graffiti on 22 March. Slogans on the wall of the Jewish cemetery read: “Fight the 5 October Zionist occupation of Serbia [fall of Milosevic regime]; “B-92 is Jewish Television!” “Jewish parasites get out of Serbia”; “We want freedom and not Jewish occupation! Serbia belongs to Serbs!” Similar graffiti appeared on buildings of the Rex Cultural Center (which engages in ‘cultural decontamination’ - showing films and lectures about recent Balkan wars and Serbian responsibility for them), formerly, the Jewish Oneg Shabbat Center; the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights and the Foundation for Humanity and Law. The graffiti accused the heads of the last two institutions of being “Jewish puppets.”
In May, several buildings in the city of Zrenjanin, Vojvodina, including a restaurant with a memorial plate to the synagogue that once stood there and to Jewish victims of the Holocaust were covered with fascist and antisemitic messages. In Nish, southern Serbia, the synagogue was desecrated twice – in June and July - with antisemitic slogans such as “Death to servants of Zionism” and “Arbeit macht frei.”

In February 2005 a list of Jews living in Serbia, including their home and office phone numbers and addresses appeared on the white supremacist StørmFrønt site, Serbian section. An anti-fascist meeting at the University of Novi Sad was interrupted by a group of youths who resembled skinheads. Introducing themselves as ‘the National Line’, they saluted in the Nazi fashion and harassed and insulted the speakers and audience, They were apprehended and arrested a few days later. The physical liquidation of Serbian Jews began immediately in the spring of 1941. Almost all the men were killed by the autumn and the women and children and the remaining men were liquidated at the end of April and the beginning of May, 1942. The exact number of people killed is not known even from Jewish sources. Historian Jasa Romano, however, has come to the conclusion that 88% of all Serbian Jews were killed. The Serbian historian Sretenije Zrokić says that of the 11,870 Belgrade Jews only 1,115 or 9% survived the war. It was not only the Germans who captured and killed the Jews in Serbia, rather it was the Serbian Police, Nedić's volunteers and Chetniks . Most were killed in the Sajmište and Banjica concentration camps. Not a single Jew managed to escape from the camps.

Although Serbian historians contend that the persecution of the Jews of Serbia was entirely the responsibility of Germans and began only with the German occupation, this is self- serving fiction. Fully six months before the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia, Serbia had issued legislation restricting Jewish participation in the economy and university enrolment.
One year later on 22 October 1941, the rabidly antisemitic "Grand Anti-Masonic Exhibit" opened in occupied Belgrade, funded by the city of Belgrade. The central theme was an alleged Jewish-Communist-Masonic plot for world domination. Newspapers such as Obnova (Renewal) and Nasa Borba (Our Struggle) praised this exhibit, proclaiming that Jews were the ancient enemies of the Serbian people and that Serbs should not wait for the Germans to begin the extermination of the Jews. A few months later, Serbian authorities issued postage stamps commemorating the opening of this popular exhibit. These stamps, which juxtaposed Jewish and Serbian symbols, portrayed Judaism as the source of world evil and advocated the humiliation and violent subjugation of Jews.
Serbia as well as neighboring Croatia was under Axis occupation during the Second World War. Although the efficient destruction of Serbian Jewry in the first two years of German occupation has been well documented by respected sources, the extent to which Serbia actively collaborated in that destruction has been less recognized. The Serbian government under General Milan Nedic worked closely with local Nazi officials in making Belgrade the first "Judenfrei" city of Europe. As late as 19 September 1943, Nedic made an official visit to Adolf Hitler (see picture bellow), Serbs in Berlin advanced the idea that the Serbs were the "Ubermenchen" (master race) of the Slavs.

Indeed, with Nazi blessings, Nedic established the Serbian State Guard, numbering about 20,000, compared to the 3,400 German police in Serbia. Recruiting advertisements for the Serb police force specified that "applicants must have no Jewish or Gypsy blood". Nedic's second in command was Dimitrije Ljotic, founder of the Serbian Fascist Party and the principal Fascist ideologist of Serbia. Ljotic organized the Serbian Volunteers Corps, whose primary function was rounding up Jews, Bosniaks, Gypsies, and partisans for execution. Serbian citizens and police received cash bounties for the capture and delivery of Jews.

The Sajmište concentration camp was a Nazi German concentration camp, located on the outskirts of Belgrade. It was formed in December 1941 and shut down in September 1944.[1] In the beginning, it was almost exclusively meant for Serbian Jews [2], and subsequently for Serbian Roma and political prisoners. The majority of Serbian Jews were killed in the Sajmište camp.

The camp was formed on the left bank of the Sava, near the railway bridge at the entrance into Belgrade where the pre-war trade fairground (sajmište) was located.

Most of the inmates were Serbian opponents of the ocupation, as well as Serbian Romani people.[4] The number of inmates is estimated at 100 000.[5] At least 40 000 Serbian and 7–8 000 Jewish victims perished in it.[6]

The concentration camp administration had approximately 500 Jewish men who were exempted from shooting. They administered the camp in so-called "self-administration" and were responsible for distributing food, dividing up labor, and organizing a Jewish guard force which patrolled along the barbed wire fence inside the camp. The camp commandant since January 1942 was SS Untersturmführer Herbert Androfer. The camp's exterior was guarded by 25 men of German Reserve Police Batalion 64.[7]
Supplies were provided by the "Department of Social Care and Social Institutions of Belgrade’s Municipal Authorities". At the beginning of December 1941, German authorities called upon Jews in Belgrade to report to the Sicherheitspolizei and to hand over their house keys. From December 8th until 12th, Germans took them to Sajmište. Conditions in the camp were extremely difficult - the damp and the cold, hunger and epidemics. As camp inmates starved and froze to death, Jewish men (the number is unknown) were led away to be shot by German firing squads in Belgrade. They were killed in the same manner, in the same place and by the same people as were the Banjica camp prisoners. After all men were shot, 6,280 women and children were killed in a special gas truck on their way to Belgrade and buried in Jajinci.

Accordingly, between December 1941 and February 1942, all the Jewish women and children in Serbia - seventy-five hundred to eight thousand persons - were taken to the Sajmište camp. Conditions in the camp were very bad: the living accommodations did not shelter the inmates from the weather, sanitation was nonexistent (there was a single shower for all the prisoners, and very few toilets), and the food was bad. As a result, the mortality rate soared.[8]

In the early spring of 1942 the German authorities in Serbia realized that they would not be able to deport the Jews as quickly as they had thought, and they asked Berlin to provide another solution. In late February a gas van (see gas vans) arrived in Belgrade, sent from Berlin, of the kind that had by then been tried out in Poland and in the Soviet Union. This gas van was used from March to May 1942 to kill all the Jews imprisoned in Sajmište.
After that only a few Jews were left in Serbia. Most of them had been given refuge by Serbian friends or had escaped to the partisans.
In November 1943 SS-Standartenführer Paul Blobel, the officer in charge of Aktion 1005, came to Belgrade in order to set up a unit that would disinter the bodies of the murder victims and burn them. The unit, consisting of fifty Sicherheitspolizei (Security Police) men and German military police, as well as 100 Jewish and Serbian prisoners, was engaged in the gruesome task of obliterating the traces of the murders up to the fall of 1944. Approximately 14,500 Serbian Jews - 90 percent of Serbia's Jewish population of 16,000 - were murdered in World War II.

Aftermath
In 1944, Sajmište was hit by U.S. bombers in raids, which killed 80 people at the camp and injured 170. The bombers' intended target was the nearby railway station.
As of 2006, Sajmište is still not a memorial center. On February 11, 1993, the European parliament adopted the Resolution on European and International Protection of Concentration Camps as Historical Monuments.[9] However, it seems this does not pertain to camp Sajmište, which is not listed among the names of the 22 largest camps for Jews in Europe in the Memorial Center Yad Vashem in the Hall of Memoirs in Jerusalem.[10] Of all the camps in the former Yugoslavia, Jasenovac is the only name listed. The location is proclaimed a "Cultural Heritage of city of Belgrade" in 1987, and the monument was elected on April 21, 1995.[5] Initiative to create a memorial center was initiated in April 2006.[citation needed]

Even as the murder of male Jews was underway in the fall 1941, the military administration chief, SS-Gruppenfuehrer Harald Turner, enacted the first measures for interning Jewish women and children in the Sajmište concentration camp near Belgrade: "Preliminary work for Jewish ghetto in Belgrade completed. BELGRADE, March 27 (JTA) — Wandering round the vast, neglected site straddling Belgrade’s Sava river, Aleksandar Mosic admits his project is ambitious.
Mosic, a former board member of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Yugoslavia, wants to recreate the Belgrade Fair exhibition ground and thus build a proper memorial to the victims of what he describes as “the forgotten concentration camp” — the Sajmiste camp that the site was turned into during World War II by the occupying Nazis.
Within six months of the camp being set up in December 1941, all 8,000 Jews from Belgrade, as well as from Austria and Czechoslovakia, who had been rounded up and imprisoned there had been transported to gassing trucks and murdered at the site. Most of these were women and children, as thousands of men had been shot dead earlier. None of the Jews sent to the camp survived.
What made Sajmiste unique was its location in clear view of Belgrade’s residents.
“It is the only camp in Europe which was so visible; the inmates were not hidden from the view of the rest of the population and that was the intention; to intimidate other Serbs by showing them what was going on inside because Serbs were much more courageous in resisting the Fascists than other nations,” says Mosic, chairman of the newly formed Old Fair Memorial Association and author of the book “The Jews in Belgrade.”
The first phase of the project would see the surviving tower reconstructed and converted into a Holocaust museum containing documents, testimonies and photographs of lost Jews from Serbia. During the time the site was used by the Nazis, the three-story building was used as the commander’s tower.
“We want to rescue the memory of the camp and its victims,” he says. “There is no monument to the Jews who died or no real education specifically about the Jewish Holocaust.”
A monument was erected on the riverbank eight years ago to all 40,000 Serbs who died in the camp, but Mosic points out that there is no specific monument to the Jewish victims. One item that will definitely be missing from the museum, however, is a list of all those interned in Sajmiste, since all such lists were destroyed by the Nazis.
The project would also involve rebuilding several exhibition halls in an effort to revitalize the site. Most of the buildings were flattened by American aerial bombing in 1945.
The project faces many hurdles. There is a shantytown on the grounds that is inhabited by approximately 200 people who would have to be rehoused.
The biggest hurdle of all could be financing. “We have no budget from the government so we are totally relying on donations,” Mosic says.
Despite the difficulties, Mosic, 84, is determined to at least get the project off the ground.
“It is a very ambitious project as the site is in very bad shape and the project will involve a lot of work. We are big in hopes and good will and small in means,” says Mosic, who escaped internment at concentration camps because, like many Balkan Jews, he was fighting with the partisans against the Nazis.
“We want to return the site to the way it looked when it opened in 1935, with the Holocaust Museum as the central feature as a monument to Serbian Jews who died in the Holocaust. Just as other former concentration camps in Europe have been converted into memorials so this should be too,” says Mosic, one of 30 volunteers, both Jewish and non-Jewish, in the memorial association.
Slavko Maksimovic, the association’s secretary, estimates that the first phase of the project would cost at least $2.5 million. “We want to turn this into a lasting memorial to the people who died and to the suffering all those kept here endured,” he says. “It will take time but we hope that the central building, the Holocaust Museum, could open within two or three years.”
The site could also eventually house a theater, a museum about Belgrade, a hotel and a school of music and fine arts.
Before the war there were 10,400 Jews in Belgrade and roughly 16,000 in the whole of Serbia. Almost 90 percent were killed in the Holocaust.

Davor Salom, secretary of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Serbia and Montenegro, renamed following the disintegration of Yugoslavia as a country, says the Sajmiste project will be an important contribution to the memory process.
“We are forgetting the Holocaust too quickly, and this Holocaust Museum and the reminder of what this site was will help fulfill our obligation to the memory of thousands of Serbian Jews and millions of Jews worldwide who were killed during World War II,” he says.
The local town council is supporting the project in principle, says Mosic, and he estimates that the whole project could take 30 years to complete.
“I know I won’t be alive to see the whole project completed, but my sincere hope is to live to see the first phase finished and the opening of the Holocaust Museum,” he says.

The camp was formed on the left bank of the Sava, near the railway bridge at the entrance into Belgrade where the pre-war trade fairground (sajmište) was located. This territory which was, at that time, deserted, uninhabited and marshy, was several kilometers from Zemun and formed a part of NDH (Independent State of Croatia) territory, so the Germans asked for it to be given to them. For years, the Serbian dominated Belgrade government has supported and trained PLO terrorists. Immediately after the murder of Leon Klinghoffer aboard the Achille Lauro in 1985, the terrorist mastermind Abu Abbas was welcomed in Belgrade. Since the late 1980’s, Abu-Nidal has maintained a large terrorist infrastructure in Yugoslavia, in coordination with Libyan, Iraqi, and Yugoslav intelligence services. During the 1991 Persian Gulf War, as Iraqi missiles landed in Israel, Belgrade supported its ally Iraq. I ask honest Jews one question: Do you really think Seria is your friend?

A great humanitarian action began in September of 1940, when the heroic citizens of Sabac, Serbia saved 1300 Jews from Germany, Austria, and Hungary.These Jews were crammed onto barges sailing down the Danube River in order to escape the Nazis via the Black Sea to Eretz Yisrael. After the barges were turned away from the Bulgarian border, the Jews went up the Sava River to the town of Sabac in Serbia. The Mayor of Sabac, Dr. Miodrag Petrovic, ordered the passengers to disembark. They did so and were immediately housed and cared for by Dr. Petrovic and the citizens of Sabac. A book about this great humanitarian effort and the humanity of Dr. Pertrovic and the citizens of Sabac was written by Mrs. Mara Jovanovic and was re-published by the Jewish Museum in Belgrade (Zbornik, No.4, 1979).

THE STORY OF JEWISH REFUGEES PROTECTED IN SABAC, YUGOSLAVIA 1940-1941.
A group of 1300 Jewish emigrants reached the city of Sabac, Yugoslavia in September 1940. These Jews were actually emigrants from Austria, Germany, and Czechoslovakia who were trying to reach Eretz Yisrael by way of the Danube River.
In October of 1939, this transport had been stopped at Kladovo as some difficulties had to be bridged in finding a ship that would take them to Eretz Yisrael. Moreover, the Bulgarian authorities were unwilling to grant transit visas. The group had to spend the rough winter months in Kladovo on board the ships. When these ships had to leave Kladovo to resume normal commercial operation, the group was sheltered on barges. Sometime in the summer, these barges were towed upstream as far as Sabac. It was there that the desperate Jews would find refuge and kindness. The Mayor of Sabac, Dr. Miodrag Petrovic, who had always loved his many Jewish friends (his best friend was Dr. Alfred Bata-Koen), ordered the disembarking of the emigrants and called for preparations to be made for their housing. In Sabac, the emigrants were housed in private houses, the Hotel Paris, and an old mill and warehouse. The mill owner, Mr. Jakov Vukosavljevic, and the residents of Sabac took on the responsibility of making these locations suitable for the emigrants.
Until the arrival of the Germans and the Nazi occupation of Serbia in April of 1941, the Jews moved freely within Sabac. Some of them, physicians and carpenters for instance, were given a chance to work in their professions. Others made themselves useful by actively participating in the social and cultural life of Sabac. In the "Officer's Club," which had its catering premises in the Hotel Paris, the younger emigrants entertained the citizens of Sabac by performing shows. One of the songs of their show was"Wir Packen, Wir Auspacken�" But the respite from war and its casualties would not last long.
At the end of June 1941, the Germans established a camp near the River Sava and transported the Jewish emigrants in Sabac, by then numbering 1107, there. On August 2, 1941, the Jewish citizens of Sabac, numbering 63, were also taken to this camp. At this time, all the citizens of Sabac, Jews and Serbs alike, would become affected by the German atrocities to follow. Not only would the Germans kill indiscriminately, they would then forced the Jews to collect the corpses and hang them on street poles in Sabac for all to see.
Next, on September 24, the Germans made 5,000 citizens of Sabac and 1,100 Jews run as far as Klenak, 8 kilometers away. There they were all left without any food for two days and two nights. On September 26, the victims were forced to run another 23 kilometers, as far the township of Jarak. Those who fell during this run were simply killed. On September 30, the group was taken back to Sabac and again put in the concentration camp. On October 12 and 13, all the male Jewish emigrants, as well as all the Sabac Jews and Gypsies, were taken to Zasavica to be executed. As one eyewitness stated, only a few managed to escape. After the executions, only women and children remained in the Sabac camp. On January 26, 1942, one of the coldest winter days, the Germans forced the women and children to walk back to Klenak. They were then transported in cattle-cars via Ruma to the "Sajmiste" camp in Belgrade-Zemun. Those few who survived the treacherous, painful march and transport to the camp received no warmth or comfort there. Instead, they were put to death. By May of 1942, not one of these women or children remained alive.
One of the survivors of the atrocities committed against the emigrants and citizens of Sabac, was Salom David. It was he who translated this story into Hebrew, thus ensuring Jews and others will never forget the efforts made by people such as Dr. Miodrag Petrovic and the citizens of Sabac, Yugoslavia, under extreme hardship and constant fear for their own lives, to save the innocents of World War II.
This letter is dedicated to the memory of my late Grandfather, Dr. Miodrag "Mile" Petrovic (1894-1982). For his selfless help to the Jewish people he respected and loved, he was arrested by the Germans and interned in the Sajmiste concentration camp in Zemun. Somehow, he managed to escape: but, not for long. The Yugoslav Communists later got him and he was again arrested, only to escape them as well. He would not meet the fate that seemed to chase him every step of the way.
Following the end of WWII, Dr. Petrovic made it to Italy, then Belgium, and finally America. He first settled in Chicago then moved to Los Angeles where he remained. Before the War, he had been a lawyer, judge, and diplomat. He served the Kingdom of Yugoslavia as the Consul to Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy. He had many Jewish friends in the country he had left behind, his best friend being Dr. Bata Koen who was killed, as were many other Jews of Sabac. None believed the Nazis would kill them. They saw themselves as Serbs who were born in Sabac and didn't identify as being the Jews the Nazis were killing. The Nazis did not see them this way.
Once in America, Dr. Petrovic worked odd jobs, as he could not practice law not knowing English well enough, though he did speak perfect French and Italian. He mostly worked as an automechanic, his hobby while living in Serbia, and carpenter. He remained in America for the rest of his life. On February 11, 1982, Dr. Miodrag Petrovic passed away in Los Angeles, California and was buried at the Los Angeles Serbian Cemetery. He died as a hero to me and many others.
The Jewish Museum in Belgrade published in their journal the article telling of my Grandfather's heroism. They are also working hard to make a documentary film of the Jews protected and nearly saved in Sabac, Serbia. It is my hope that this film will tell the story of the Jews and the Serbs, friends and allies, in the name of those for whom that friendship and alliance meant everything.

The physical liquidation of Serbian Jews began immediately in the spring of 1941. Almost all the men were killed by the autumn and the women and children and the remaining men were liquidated at the end of April and the beginning of May, 1942. The exact number of people killed is not known even from Jewish sources. Historian Jasa Romano, however, has come to the conclusion that 88% of all Serbian Jews were killed. The Serbian historian Sretenije Zrokic says that of the 11,870 Belgrade Jews only 1,115 or 9% survived the war. It was not only the Germans who captured and killed the Jews in Serbia, rather it was the Serbian Police, Nedic's volunteers and Cetniks. Most were killed in the Sajmiste and Banjica concentration camps. Not a single Jew managed to escape from the camps.
The Banjica camp in Belgrade was established in July 1941 and shut down at the end of September 1944, a month before the withdrawal of the Germans from Belgrade. At a meeting between the Serbian Police and members of the Gestapo in June 1941, it was decided that one of the barracks of the former Yugoslav Army in Belgrade's suburbs be transformed into a concentration camp. Dragi Jovanovic signed the document to this effect and the first prisoners were brought in on May 9. Svetozar Vujkovic was appointed director of the Serbian part of the camp where there were only Serbian police. The smaller German part was directed by members of the Gestapo. The commander of the camp and along with his assistant were German. The German and Serbian parts of the camps were completely separate.
The prisoners were watched by heavily armed guards: "Machine guns and reflectors were set up on the roofs. Day and night, double guards made up of one SS-man and a gendarme from the Special Police stood watch. Later when the police gained the trust of the occupier, the German guards were withdrawn". The same Serbian source also said: "The camp management apparatus was also made up of prison wardens, headed by their commander, who had been chosen from the ranks of former gendarmes, now members of the Serbian guard."
From partially preserved documents of the Serbian part of the camp we learn that 23,697 people were registered and 3,489 were executed by a firing squad. The German and Serbian police began, at the end of 1943, to destroy the documentation and to excavate and burn the executed bodies so that it is actually not known how many victims perished, nor how many were Jews, Serbs or others. The only thing that is known for certain is: not one Jew left Banjica alive... They were killed along with the other prisoners in the camp yard, shot down in the village of Jajinci at the foot of Avala, at the Jewish and the central cemetery in Belgrade.
The Gestapo, the Special Police, and the Serbian National Guard performed the executions together. All the lists found were handwritten in Cyrillic. The prisoners were sent to the camps by the Belgrade Civil Government, the heads of the Serbian municipal police, the Serbian National Guard, Ljotic's volunteer units, Serbian court-martials, and by regional and district leaders throughout Serbia. Execution lists were drawn up by the Special Police, the camp chief, Vujkovic, the Gestapo commander and his assistant. From the few preserved lists, it can be observed that even children were executed: 22 under the age of 7; 26 under the age of 14; 76 under the age of 17; even mothers with small children in their arms. Belgrade grave-diggers recall: "Members of the Gestapo and Special Police agents would draw women out of armored cars, one by one. Two men would hold each one by the arms and the third would shoot her in the head and then push her into the grave."
A Jewish source stated: " From 1942 up to September 1944, Jews, who had found refuge in some villages in Serbia, were brought to the Banjica camp after being caught by Ljotic's and Nedic's men, as well as by Cetniks and handed over to the Germans for which they received financial rewards."

The majority of Serbian Jews were killed in the Sajmiste camp. There is no precise information and documentation is almost non-existent, yet it is estimated that the number of victims comes to at least 11,000. The camp was formed on the left bank of the Sava by the railway bridge at the entrance into Belgrade where the pre-war trade fair was located. This is where the name Sajmiste originated. This territory which was, at that time, deserted, uninhabited and marshy, was several kilometers from Zemun and formed a part of NDH (Independent State of Croatia) territory, so the Germans asked for it to be given to them.
It is, however, completely untrue that this was an Ustasa camp which Serbian propaganda claims even today. Not one Ustasa ever entered the camp. The commander, Androfer, and his assistant, were SS-men. On Gestapo ruling, order and discipline were maintained by the Camp Council which was comprised exclusively of camp inmates who were at first solely Jews because there were no others and some agents of the Serbian police. Supplies were provided by the "Department of Social Care and Social Institutions of Belgrade's Municipal Authorities".
At the beginning of December 1941, Serbian gendarmes called upon Jews in Belgrade to report to the Special Police and to hand over their house keys. The transfer of Jews, primarily women and children, lasted from December 8 until 12. Conditions in the camp were extremely difficult - the damp and the cold, hunger and epidemics. A Jewish source says: "The food was appalling and often not even the minimal amount of food was supplied. In Nedic's units there were people who were no better than the Germans themselves." What is almost unbelievable is that even the camp's German commander protested against the quantity of supplies. The reply of Belgrade's Municipal Authorities to the Germans was just as unbelievable if not insolent: "Provisions for the Jewish camp will be carried out once all other needs are met."
As camp inmates starved and froze to death, they were transferred over the frozen Sava to Belgrade where they were buried. Many (the number is unknown) were led away to be shot by firing squads in Belgrade. They were killed in the same manner, in the same place and by the same people as were the Banjica prisoners. Some were killed by the Germans in a special gas truck on their way to Belgrade and buried in Jajinci but their number is not known. A Serbian company "Obnova" purchased the clothes of those. Some were led away to camps in other countries (numbers and destination are unknown). When the number of imprisoned Jews began to decrease, Serbian prisoners and others began to arrive. One of these prisoners recalls: "The criminals were the same as those in Banjica. The commanders were also the same - Germans, Nedic's men and other Serbian fascists". According to some data, all Jews in that camp were liquidated before May 9, 1942. Belgrade had become "Judenfrei"....
Another surviving Serbian camp inmate, wrote in his book of memoirs: "Several thousand Jews passed through the Sajmiste camp... Long lines of sad histories were written on the walls of the pavilions and in many places artistic portraits were completed. For days we returned to these final traces of thousands of people. There were surviving Serbians who told us various details about the life of the Jews in Sajmiste and who had allowed the Jews to write their final parting thoughts and vows ." Today, there is not a trace of these words at Sajmiste. Which of the "liberators" erased, destroyed and eradicated their every trace? Consequently, in the pavilions that remain today, consisting of offices and warehouses, there is not even a small plaque commemorating that this was the scene of a horrific concentration camp for Jews. On February 11, 1993, the European parliament adopted the Resolution on European and International Protection of Concentration Camps as Historical Monuments. But it seems this does not pertain to camp Sajmiste. Sajmiste, the largest Jewish execution camp in Serbia, is not even listed among the names of the 22 largest camps for Jews in Europe in the Memorial Center Jad Vashem in the Hall of Memoirs in Jerusalem. Of all the camps in the former Yugoslavia, Jasenovac is the only name listed!

In 1941 Mihajlovic was appointed minister of war by King Peter and the Yugoslav government-in-exile.
In July and August of that year, Mihajlovic and his men took part in the uprising against the Germans, during which he cooperated with the Yugoslav partisans under Josip Broz Tito. The uprising, however, was brutally suppressed by the Germans, leading Mihajlovic to rethink his position. He concluded that there was no point in fighting against the Germans, that his focus should be on the fate of Yugoslavia after the war, and that his true enemy was the communist partisan movement under Tito. In response, the Allies switched their support to the partisans who were fighting the Germans and came to view the Chetniks as Nazi collaborators. After the occupation of Serbia by the partisans and the Soviet army, the Chetniks were hunted down. Mihajlovic went into hiding, but was captured and arrested on March 13, 1946. Found guilty of treason and collaboration, he was executed in Belgrade in 1946.

But let me point you on another story:
The Airmen and the Baroness
Learning the realities of the fate of American airmen in Croatia during World War II proved even more interesting than uncovering the source of the mythology. Between the years of 1973 and 1979, this author undertook primary and secondary research into the subject which resulted in a monograph titled Allied Prisoners of War in Croatia 1941-1945. Since there were fewer than one hundred airmen, American, British, Russian, South African, and Partisan, who were held by the Croatian government during the War, the myth that "dozens" or twenty-five percent, were executed is a significant one.
As a part of the study, ten Americans who had been held prisoner-of-war in Croatia were interviewed as were guards, the American-born priest who celebrated mass and others who were present at the estate of the Baroness Nikolic which served as the POW "camp" on the outskirts of Zagreb. The findings of this study were surprising. It was learned that the "camp" at 203 Pantovcak in Zagreb had no fence. Visitors were welcome and some POWs visited a nearby tavern until German soldiers visited the same tavern. POWs had a radio and listened to U.S. Armed Forces radio. And the camp tennis champion was Frank Ryan of Sommerville, New Jersey.
Essentially the Baroness Nikolic considered the airmen her guests and afforded them the best treatment and food available given the wartime conditions, including a generous wine ration. Several POWs worked in the villa's vineyards and records were kept of all such work so that the POWs could be paid after the war as provided for by Geneva Conventions. Given the chaotic state at the end of the war, the airmen were given vouchers instead of cash. One former POW, a guest of honor at a Los Angeles Croatian Day celebration in 1979, still had his voucher and promised to cash it in when Croatia became independent.
Often the Croatian Red Cross provided the airmen with such luxuries as chocolate and cigarettes that were unavailable to the average Croatian soldier. While wounded or ill Croatian soldiers could expect little more than meager supplies in field first aid stations, American POWs were treated at Zagreb's finest hospital . None of the airmen interviewed or surveyed recalled any instance of mistreatment and some provided documentary and photographic evidence of very close personal relationships with Croatian officers and female members of the Croatian Red Cross. The study failed to find the name of any Allied POW who was executed and found no "official policy" of executing airmen.
As for chetniks saving US airman's you didn't mention that US payed chetniks for every saved pilot in gold bars directly to Draza Mihaijlovic account in Switzerland but unfortunately for him he didn't get much because he didn't save many ...

Ok Husar give some arguments why I should get ban? Did I glorify nazi's ? I was first to condemn Croatian crimes during WW2 in Jasenovac camp and other areas but I simply want to say to proud people on JTF that Croats aren't nazi lovers. Majority of Croats fight during WW2 in Tito's partisans against nazi's and domestic traitors. Today Croatia is simple normal state with laws against such ideology. My point about whole situation in this Balkan area is that not all things are black and white, all sides involved in war made crimes and we should not be ashamed to admit them. As son we admit their crimes in past we can go and live our normal life.
