Title: גאַנצע מענטשן (Gantze Menshen)
Post by: Binyamin Yisrael on October 14, 2021, 01:48:00 AM
What is גאַנצע מענטשן? In September, 2002, Chaim translates it as wonderful people when talking about all the blacks coming to New York State if Carl McCall would become Governor and give them unlimited welfare. This is the oldest JTF show I have on my computer.

I always thought of it as gonfor mention and used it as if it means "G-d forsaken". I don't think I ever said it to anyone but I think it to myself when thinking about evil people.

Gantze menschen means "complete human beings" in Yiddish if I remember correctly (I don't speak Yiddish). In other words, real or whole human beings - which is an expression that sounds strange in English but makes sense in Yiddish. I know this even though I don't speak Yiddish but because I heard Yiddish-speaking people use the expression.

When I used the term to refer to blacks taking over New York, the term was used sarcastically.

Google Translate thinks it means "Advertising people". It says "פרסום אנשים" when translating it to Hebrew.
