My favorite sit com of all time is All in the family. Caroll O'connor- AKA "Archie was a first rate actor. The funniest show of all time. The next best is Sanford and Son, with Red Fox.
I'm 38, so I guess I'm dating myself.

Oh yeah, it was a ground breaking show. The best episode was when the "HDA" visits Archie after his house is mistakenly stamped with a swastika.

It still reruns so younger generations can enjoy it too. It was halarious when Archie did not notice the swastika right away and seeing his facial expression when it hit him that something was not right with the door.

Funniest? Happy Days is one of the great sitcoms of all time. At least for me.

I don't know guys: Can we or did we call AITF funny completely? I personally feel that it had it's comedic moments, but it was serious enough to cover some of the most important topics of the time ie Vietnam, racism, abortion etc...

I second that. Archie was hilarious, but I also found when his political/race/religious views were into question or mocked. To the African doctor performing his gallbladder operation: Archie: You're a doctor?
Doctor: By night I am, by day I strangle chickens for the colonel. lol Stuff like that was great!

Fawlty Towers is the greatest sitcom of all time.

Archie's facial expressions would really get me going. When he would pick on meathead and Edith, it was just hysterical

There was an even better (British) show than All In The Family. It was called Love Thy Neighbour.
It was about a white, socialist, union delegate biggot living next door to a conservative Black (West Indie). Funny as hell! They put stuff in there that would NEVER be allowed on US television. The white guy would call the black guy 'King Kong, Sambo, Chocolate drop, [censored]-nog, gollywog etc. He'd also accuse him of being a cannibal at least once every episode.

The white guy would call the black guy 'King Kong, Sambo, Chocolate drop, [censored]-nog, gollywog etc. He'd also accuse him of being a cannibal at least once every episode.

He'd try to be dignified and ignore it but then he'd get mad and say "watch it, Snowflake!". Sometimes he'd play pranks on the white guy and pretend he was gonna eat him & so on. A really funny show. It was an institution in Australia. Everybody remembers it from the 70s & 80s and wishes it was back on.

All in the family is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. The show tackled topics that never before were brought up in other shows of that time. If the show was made today, it will be off the air so fast it will make heads spin.

The old, white WWII guy (Archie) was portrayed as an ignorant, racist, dumb boob. At the same time, the black neighbors (the Jeffersons) and the hippie children (Struthers and Meathead) constantly 'enlighten' him and make him look like a backwards nitwit.

That's been the formula for sitcoms throughout the English-speaking world. Britain had Alf Garnet & Eddie Booth, Australia had Alf Cook & Ted Bullpit..........all Archie Bunker biggot types who needed to be enlightened by liberals/blacks/hippies etc.

I forgot about this episode, it was just on. Archie and his friends have a club that was accused of bigotry, so they ask a black Jew to join. Hearing this guy say that he had to come out on Shabbos and helping his son with his Bar Mitzvah speech were hilarious. I think the best had to be when he walks out and says: "Shalom Y'all!" lol

and I when I was a teen that girl that played
Jo on Facts of Life I was a silly teen boy back then had a crush. LOL
