Title: Most Valuable Member
Post by: Yisrael on October 30, 2007, 12:43:22 PM
I think that every weak we should award a Most Valuable Member award to the member that contributed the most that week to the forum. And then that should be the only way to get the wings.

I don't think we should make participation on the forum a contest or just throw wings around.
The whole point of the wings or an appointment will loose it's meaning.

I know there are alot of forum members who work at jobs or have obligations which prevent them from participating as much as they would like.

Members can nominate people and then we can vote for the Most Valuable Member of that week.

bullcat3, all forum members are valuable and precious, but this would be a reward for those that do something extra or special.

And you can't really base it on quantity of posts.

Because certain unscrupulous individuals would take advantage of it.

Just to inflate their number of posts.
Title: Re: Most Valuable Member

It would detract from the content of the forum.

4 posts sequencely ?

Anyway, I think the solution will be two Honorable ranks:
Silver Wings (For one week)
Gold Wings (For always)

I couldn't care less about the amount of posts I have. Those weren't "cheap" posts in the sense that I posted them to get my post count higher. I didn't even notice I passed 500 until you guys mentioned it.

Anyway, Dexter had a good idea.

Congratulations for having 500 posts HiWarp!

If there will be an agreement on Yisrael's idea we should have a redistribution of the wings.

Yes, in trying to make my point I had 5 ridiculous posts in a row which took me above 500.  I was referring to MY cheap posts.

And thanks, Bullcat.

Can we have a 'least valuable member' award? The winner (or loser) will receive two front-row tickets to a Hillary Clinton fund-raiser.

Wouldn't work. The least valuable member is probably someone who supports Hillary Clinton, why reward them?

Add a personal introduction to Hillary where you actually shake her hand and kiss her and you're bordering on torture. :P

I'm all for dealing out accolades, but at some point I think we have to stop the self-congratulations and just work for the cause together as a movement.  As Chaim pointed out in the recent Ask JTF, we would be that much stronger if there weren't separate factions supposedly working towards the same cause.  We need to work together more.

I don't like this idea. Wings are permanent...

can someone get a repeat award each week?

I meant that every week one person get the wings and gets to keep them permanently. Anyone can nominate a member and then we hold weekly elections. I guess there should be some regulations about who can be nominated (e.g. min posts or min time on the forum). And there should be regulations as to who can vote. (min posts/min time on forum).

And maybe they don't have to be wings. Maybe they can be a trophy or something like that.

I meant we disregard the vote of those with less posts.

We don't do a poll, we all post out in the open who we support.

OR, you can make a group of "veteran" posters and make a 'veterans' only forum, like you have with the mods only forum. And you can vote there.
