There is too much play in my steering wheel, whats wrong with it.  Is it the bushings?  What does it cost top fix?

The wheel turns about 1/4 of an inch before the front tires move

The car need to be put on a lift or jacked up and the parts in the steering linkage need to be checked for play. All parts should be tight with no looseness in the individual joints. This is something that needs attention it could be dangerous.

If you drive a series1 to series 3 British Landrover, 90 degrees of slop either side of centre is quite normal. :D

That's a good one Newman. Compared to that,  my play is in good shape. :::D
