Title: How many candles are litten on Shabbat?

Tradition is at least two, and then some people add one for each child. Anyone have any other interesting customs or is anyone aware of where these customs originated?

Lighting for each child originated (and practiced) by the Askenazim.

Is there a source for the reason of the Sephardi (or Ashkenazi) custom?

I do 3 but only if there are no women in the house
