Title: Why we shouldn't have to recycle!
Post by: Sarah on December 11, 2007, 03:00:28 PM
Companies produce all this huge fancy packaging  that isn't biodegradable, very unnessecary and just there to make us buy the product.

They should STOP producing all the excess and keep packaging to a bare minumum and then tell us to recycle. There we are made to feel like its our fault that the next hurricane came along because of "climate change" because we didn't recycle all of our bottles.

In some places people have to pay extra taxes on their rubbish when it isn't even their fault.

I agree. The stupid, unneccessary plastic packaging is for retail display purposes. There should be rugulations about packaging.

There are small packets of nuts wrapped up, all in a box that is also packaged. Then you put it in a plastic bag and wrap it up again to go home.

I agree, it's absurd.

but when Jews order kosher food and get it delivered, it's double or triple wrapped in plastic and tin foil...

furthermore, these vaccumed plastic bags for these nuts keep them fresh and keep air from getting into the tin cans...so it's better quality and a less likelyhood of tanted food

I say keep the plastic on the nuts..

and how hard is it to have two or three separate garbage containers for recycling? I mean most kosher Jews have separate plates for meat and milk so if we can do it, you can too when it comes down to recycling.

Plastic really can't be recycled well, nuts keep pretty well without vacuum, or plastic, it's not needed, tin cans are fine, they can be recycled relatively easily, but get rid of all the plastic.

The thing is dannycookie, why should we? When all the fuss can be stopped further on in the line.

Nuts was just an example. Though  isn't the best food picked fresh, where it has been exposed to probably a lot more bacteria then packaged food. I don't think it is about cleanliness but we think it is. If things are truly "clean" we are made to believe that they should be concealed, deprived from air and untouched, maybe but to such extreme extents.

Penn and Teller did a show a while back (They have a show which is named after a cuss word, but that actually has some good info on it sometimes. In it they explained why most recycling is worse for the environment than throwing garbage away. The main exception they cited was aluminum, which they said is more environmentally friendly to recycle than to mine. I think packaging on food and medicine is fine. It helps keep the food fresh and as tamper free as possible. I wouldn't want to buy peanut butter or aspirin for example, without a safety seal on it! On other items however I think it would be a good idea to cut down on packaging.

Peanut butter, use a glass jar, and an aluminium lid... Glass is normally relatively easy to recycle, or, the jar could just be reused...

Overall, recycling can at times be worse, for glass however it takes 25% less energy to melt the glass for re-use then it does to reproduce glass. But it is a lot more effort.

No to mention some petroleum is used to manufacture some plastics, which puts more money in the hands of terrorists

Almost all plastics come from oil, it' not some, it's probably 90+%.

Every year they keep changing what you should put in regular garbage, recycle bins for cans and plastic, and where to put paper products.   But they change it every year.

By the way what happen to the hole in the Ozone Layer scare?  Remember we kept hearing this now thats silent.  Did the hole fixed itself??

Recycling employs 100's of thousands of people around the world in jobs, that pay for the welfare of their families.

Great greenie idea, but are you going to personally pay those peoples wages  ::) I think not.

Half of this has to do with environmentalist groups, and they take things overboard.
