Title: As we examine the Presidential frontrunners .....
Post by: Ithaca-37 on February 03, 2008, 03:12:37 PM
..... I'm struck by a real sense of foreboding.  Regardless of the winner, it seems certain that we will be stuck with a hard-left administration, regardless if there's a "D" behind his/ her name, vs a meaningless "R" in the case of McCain.

My heart is leading me to believe that we're seeing something similar to some Tanach times, when The Almighty more or less allowed His people Israel to surrender to their own vices, even to the point where the Hebrews suffered genuine enslavement, in most cases at the hands of animals whose vices were even worse than Israel at its most lost.

Like me, many if not most on this board have deep religious convictions.  And so I invite debate on this question:  Is this grim choice for President some kind of sign that God is removing His protective hand from the United States?

Ithica, if McCain wins, there will be a choice between a Liberal and a Socialist.  I still think Socialism is the worst form of anything that can ever exist.  Liberalism isn't that great either, but has some good in it.. Conservatism is much better than liberalism. However, Conservatism isn't perfect either.

How is McCain not a socialist?

McCain is a socialist to me even if he claims to be pro-life or anti-abortion.

Socialism has nothing to do with moral issues such as abortion.

Even Hillary can't properly be termed as a socialist.  She's a "social democrat", not a socialist.  If she was a socialist, she would be a nominee for the US Socialist Party.

McCain is a social democrat as well, but not to the same extent that Hillary is.

How is McCain not a socialist?  He doesn't advocate an economic system where all of the means of production are put in the hands of the collective.

That is the definition of socialism, and the term shouldn't be used incorrectly.

We don't need to call Hillary or McCain socialists, their immigration and welfare positions are horrible enough as it is.
