Green light for EU Kosovo mission
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7226959.stm
Nato's 16,000-strong force will continue working in Kosovo
An EU police and justice mission to Kosovo has been agreed by all 27 member states within 24 hours of Serbia's presidential election coming to an end.
No launch date has yet been given although that is likely to be decided by EU foreign ministers on 18 February.
The BBC's Oana Lungescu says the mission was approved in writing before a Monday deadline so as not to interfere with the polls in Serbia.
Kosovo is expected to declare independence in the next few weeks.
Hashim Thaci, prime minister of the breakaway Serbian province, said consultations were being held with what he called Kosovo's international partners - the EU and the US - before announcing a date.

"Kosovo is ready, it's united, it's prepared to declare independence and we will take a decision very soon," he told the BBC.
The EU's 1,800 police and legal officials will take over from the United Nations in Kosovo, under UN Security Council resolution 1244, which refers to an international security presence.
The 16,000-strong Nato force will remain in Kosovo, which is a province of Serbia.
Tadic victory
Kosovo's leadership has delayed proclaiming independence because of the second round of the presidential election, won on Sunday by Serbia's pro-Western President, Boris Tadic.
Serbia's electoral commission said Mr Tadic had secured 50.5% of the votes, defeating nationalist challenger Tomislav Nikolic, who polled 47.7%.
The election was seen as a referendum on Serbia's relations with Europe, with Mr Tadic promising EU-backed prosperity against Mr Nikolic's pro-Moscow campaign.
In a message to Mr Tadic, Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission - the EU's executive arm - said the result was "a victory for democracy in Serbia and for the European values we share".
He added: "Your victory comes at a critical moment for Serbia and for the western Balkans.
"We wish to accelerate Serbia's progress towards the European Union."
The EU is due to sign an agreement with Serbia this week offering more trade, easier travel, and possible membership.
Early on Monday, addressing hundreds of cheering supporters from a window overlooking the main Terazije avenue in the Serbian capital Belgrade, Mr Tadic said: "Serbia has shown its great democratic potential."
"We give support today to our fellow people in Kosovo and show them that we will never let them down.
"We don't want bad things to come to anyone. We want peace, co-operation with all countries in the region, but we demand Serbia be respected."
Bombing campaign
Kosovo has been run by the UN since a US-led Nato bombing campaign drove out Serb forces accused of a brutal crackdown on ethnic Albanian separatists.
Cyprus and Romania said the EU civilian mission had to be approved after the election and before Kosovo declared independence because they would otherwise have a problem with the legal basis of the mission.
Both countries have already emphasised they will not recognise a unilateral declaration of independence.
As soon as a launch date is finalised, the EU will have 120 days to deploy its staff.
The BBC understands that the mission will be called EULEX Kosovo and will cost 205m euros for the first 16 months.
Sources say the EU has agreed to appoint Dutch diplomat Peter Feith as EU special representative to Kosovo.

This is ridiculous....I'm going to go out on a limb and say [censored] THE EUROPEAN UNION.
What is this garbage? This is imperialism all over again, with different leaders. Think about it.
1) They de facto annexed Kosovo by having 16,000 troops there and allowing independence
2) They're enforcing their decision with the troops
3) They're trying to absorb (i.e annex) Serbia into their empire
4) They are giving the illusion that they are democratic while maintaining an iron grip on power
If you're still not convinced, I'll give you an historical example.
Take Rome.
1) They annexed entire countries, then..
2) They invaded the countries and took them over, enforcing their takeover with troops
3) These countries were then absorbed into their empire, and finally
4) They were called the "Republic" of Rome, when in fact they had an Emperor.
History does in fact repeat itself many times over, apparently.

What are a bunch of people gonna do with that. We could go brutus on all politicians. Or we could die and it would die itself after either a couple of years or 1000 years.

We need to mobilise the majority of europe against the Eu and the Nato to help our Serb friends to kick out the enemy.
HOW can we do that??
Maybe Russia will do it?

EU is speaking about democracy? :::D Wait for the Lisbon treaty to be aproved of course by parlaments not ignorant people who rejected it earlier in France and Holland, there will be common foreign and defence policy so even last two righteus Romania and Cyprus won't be able to veto this.

France (b. Verdun, August 843 – d. Versailles, February 2008), RIP

Today, France’s deputies and senators meeting in Parliament in Versailles ratified by a vote of 560 to 181 the constitutional revision that precedes the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon. The result of this voting opens the way for the final ratification, Thursday, first at the National Assembly, then the Senate. Out of 893 present, 741 voted.
France is the 5th country after Hungary, Slovenia, Romania and Malta to ratify the Lisbon Treaty, in which they sign their sovereignty away.

No John, No

What vision does John McCain have for Europe? A good friend pointed me to this long piece in last month’s Foreign Affairs magazine.
The United States did not single-handedly win the Cold War; the transatlantic alliance did, in concert with partners around the world. The bonds we share with Europe in terms of history, values, and interests are unique. Unfortunately, they have frayed. As president, one of my top foreign policy priorities will be to revitalize the transatlantic partnership.
Americans should welcome the rise of a strong, confident European Union. The future of the transatlantic relationship lies in confronting the challenges of the twenty-first century worldwide: developing a common energy policy, creating a transatlantic common market tying our economies more closely together, and institutionalizing our cooperation on issues such as climate change, foreign assistance, and democracy promotion.
Oh my giddy aunt. The transatlantic alliance did indeed take part in the winning of the cold war. Mostly NATO and a certain bit of Thatcher, Reagan teamwork. Indeed most of what is now the EU was on the other side, or sitting with their broad subsidised arses pinned firmly to the fence.
"Institutionalizing our cooperation". No John, no, no, no. What you are saying here is putting our cooperation into an institution... bedlam.
