If I were in power, I would not give any welfare to single mothers. Welfare would be only given to families that have fallen on hard times. Single mothers would have to rely on the kindness of private citizens.

If I were in power, I would not give any welfare to single mothers. Welfare would be only given to families that have fallen on hard times. Single mothers would have to rely on the kindness of private citizens.

What if it's a widow single mother? Who was a good righteous housewife all her life and who's husband died and now needs to care for her 2-4 kids unexpectedly? Or if she was a hard working single mother but had an accident and can longer work as she became disabled (unable to walk, or some other extreme illness etc) and needs to get some extra help to feel her family?
Just some situations that might happen in this crazy world.

Of course, I don't mean widows. I mean women who willfully have children out of wedlock. What I think is that welfare is not an entitlement, it's a privilege. This privilege is based on behaviors that we, as society, want to encourage because they benefit society as a whole. The institute of marriage is the backbone of society. Single motherhood on a large scale destroys society. Therefore we want to promote families and we want to discourage single motherhood. We do this with taxes and social policies. It is only fair that a woman who chooses to have a child out of wedlock has to rely on her private resources and private charity for help. If we had this policy of no welfare to single mothers, the number of single mother would go down drastically.

Have you ever heard of court shows where they sometimes do paternity tests?
