I think Chaim is trying to convince us to eat healthy. As I was listening to the show this morning each time he mentioned the tomato juice I started getting a craving for some as well. Since I had none in the house I had to settle for some Kedem Apple Juice (with no sugar added  ;)) with my lunch.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to live a healthy life... G-d gave us only one body so we might as well take good care of it.
There are plenty of people that are self destructive and indulge in all types of abusive behaviors...

Yeah...you're right.

Willie Nelson and Keith Richard always look like the unhappiest people on the planet.

It must truly be terrible having a life like theirs.

They would give anything to just be like Dr. Dan.

Got the last one. I also managed to find cheese with an OU hecture. I guess it is still up for debate whether it is kosher or not because it still is not Halav Yisrael. Why they put the Kosher dips next to the boars head products I don't know but at least it is sealed. I always hate when I find non-kosher products mixed with the Kosher ones in the store.

<snip>I always hate when I find non-kosher products mixed with the Kosher ones in the store.

There are 2 situations where kosher food is very directly mixed with a creature that is not kosher to eat. And the food is fine

1.  A Bee (his honey)
2.  A mother (her milk)

So really. If a sealed container of kosher food is next to a treif one, it's fine.

And fruits have contact with mud..  Mud doesn't come with a chechsher.

I would be wary about contact with non kosher food, (except perhaps the case of a bee and a mother)

But you're not even talking about contact, you are talking about sealed containers.

I sometimes put a bit of paper down on a desk - as a plate, and eat off a desk that people must have eaten non-kosher food on.

Haha I did think it was rather funny how Chaim kept talking about babaganoosh and tomato juice over, and over, and over, and over. So let me perpetuate the conspiracy theory--are V-8 and the babaganoosh industry sponsoring ask JTF now?  ;)

I like eggplant, and nightshade plants in general. I am growing one that has about four small fruit on it as we speak, but the leaves look like crap owing to a bad spider-mite infestation (that claimed many of our tomato plants too). We are strictly a no-pesticide household, so there ain't much we can do about this...

The issue with tomato juice is that it is very very very high in Sodium...very very salty...Chaim should watch what he drinks...just because it's tomatoes doesn't mean it is healthy...very very very HIGH in salt...i would advise taking actual cherry tomatoes chopping them up with some kirby cucumbers, a splash of lemon, a splash of olive oil, kyan pepper, a tiny bit of salt...

Mayonnaise is spelt with 2 Ns.

hopefully not an unhealthy mayonnaise.

transfats are worst, then poly something, or saturated.
monounsaturated is the healthiest form of fat.

pheasant..while most of a tomato juice is very healthy, read the amount of sodium it carries..about 35% of the daily allowance..that's friggin high!

If it is tomatoe juice you want, I recommend trying a fresh tomato, cucumbers, lemon/lime juice, salt, pepper, cayanne pepper...let me know how it tastes once it has been blended...

Also those ingredients make for a goooood salad.

Natrium = Sodium

So the juice has 0,2 gramm of Sodium pro 100 ml

and it has 1,4 gramm of salt pro 200 ml ( a glass)

Is it ok?

I see 23% per serving of sodium. That means if you have 4 servings of this, you have reached your limit of the amount of sodium you should be having in a given day.

I personally love V8 and tomato juice and once in a while it's good to have...but be wary...There is a high sodium content. If you normally don't put salt on your food and have other low sodium diets, then you can survive on a drink or two of tomato juice. But be careful..it's not as good for you as you might think...just because of the sodium content alone..it's what makes it taste good.

I don't taste much salt.

If I have tomato juice from a carton, I have some bottled water too, and alternate.  This is because otherwise it is too salty.

Blenders don't, no. It's a spinning blade on a motor.

But people who put the juice in cartons, probably do, which is why when I have the cartoned juice, I have some bottled water along with it.

juicer might be more convenient than a blender.. - perhaos not having to peel - though a friend said that throwing them in whole, though it  may separate the skin from the fruit, but still it squeezes the skin so much that you get the rubbish from the skin in your juice.

Also, I've heard that if your blood pressure is low, you don't have to worry about excess sodium in your diet.  Mine is either 90/70 or sometimes 110/70.  Sometimes if I stand up too quickly, I get dizzy.

you have receptors in the body that detect the amount of sodium in the body...if your body feels like it's on low, you crave salty food...

Salty food now this time of year is good to eat, better then sweet, cause when it is hot you lose sodium in your body from sweating.  And salt or salty foods helps to replenish.

V8 makes tomato juice low in sodium
I know V8 make 6 types

V8® 100% Vegetable Juice
Low Sodium
Spicy Hot
High Fiber
Essential Antioxidants
Calcium Enriched

One a day if you have a low sodium diet is fine...i woudl simply say, don't go heavy on the tomato juice each day.

i'm sure there are low sodium tomato juices out there...might not be as tastey...those that would be, would be high in sugar...

you keep making it sound like juice from tomatos are high in salt or sodium.  When you say tomato juice.

i'm sure you only mean cartons have this high salt. And tomatos don't , right? if so, then you are misleading.

i'm sure there are low sodium tomato juices out there...might not be as tastey...those that would be, would be high in sugar...

you keep making it sound like juice from tomatos are high in salt or sodium.  When you say tomato juice.

i'm sure you only mean cartons have this high salt. And tomatos don't , right? if so, then you are misleading.

The tomato juice that chaim was drinking most likely had lots of sodium on it..even compared to the one that pheasant should a picture of.

Tomatos alone don't have any sodium...That's like a, "Duh, assumption."  Why do you think I recommended rather than drinking from a carton that people make a tomato cucumber smoothie with some lime or lemon juice and a  little salt and cayanne pepper?

If someone wishes to drink lots of tomato juice from a carton, they need to look at the sodium content before they do so...Almost always the sodium is very high..and I can tell you that if it were really low, it might taste pretty awful..so if one goes for the more delicious one, he shoudl only have one a day and not go crazy thinking if they have 5 they will live a few extra years...

I've been eating a yogurt from Kroger called Carb Master. I know Chaim isn't really fond of dairy products, but I think this one is healthy. It has 35% of your daily calcium in one serving (I usually eat two cups, so that's 70% for me), only 80 calories (160 for me when I eat two), and only three grams of sugar (that would be 6 for me).

Most yogurts have less calcium and a lot more sugar. The carb master also has live cultures, which are healthy :)

It's beneficial bacteria, not bad bacteria, so it won't eat me, unless someone puts some of that flesh eating bacteria in there, but I've never heard of that being used to make yogurt, so I'm not too worried.

The live cultures are what turn it from milk into yogurt, it's good to eat it while they're still alive, because it puts good bacteria in your intestines which helps with your immune system and having a healthy digestive system.

The only way I like mayonnaise is if it's mixed with a lot of mustard in potato salad. I do like potato salad!

It is beneficial bacteria that healthy people have it in their guts anyway. I heard from a diet counselor that the amount of living bacteria is negligent even in the pro-biotic products. There are pills with much higher concentration, but normally no one needs them.

It covers up the nasty mayo taste and tastes great with the potatoes. Most grocery stores around here sell it as "mustard potato salad" but if it has too much mayo taste in it, I don't like it.

Edit: I've heard there are some versions with no mayo, I'd like to try those.

cartoned tomato juice would be a good expression for what you are referring to then.
Rather than just tomato juice.

if you just say tomato juice, it looks like a general expression, and not specifically "the tomato juice that chaim was drinking", which is what you were referring to.

If you say tomato juice is salty, people might think you are referring to any tomato juice, and they will think about hte one they do, which might be tomatos in a blender.

You know bananas can be quite sweet..  Avocados quite high in fat.  Fruits can have their issues.

And you even said tomato juice was bad for being high in sodium, which was even more likely to mislead people. People might think sodium is a bad chemical found in tomatos.

Jews lived in "arab" lands Before Arabs.

And, according to something I heard from brigitte gabriel, even Lebanese Christians not long ago (and perhaps some today) didn't even consider themselves arab. They were here before them and retained their culture - able to speak aramaic I think.
