I hate this song! I hate it!
Think of the poor people in America, the poor blacks and whites and others who are struggling paycheck to paycheck or even day-to-day, maybe even homeless. How do you think they feel when billions of dollars are sent to Africa for aid? Each country should take care of its own people first!
I've been bombarded with this ignorant, arrogant "Christmas song" for over a month now at my job. As long as there is one hungry mouth to feed in America not one dollar of foreign aid should be sent out.
Likewise each European nation should look out for its own people first and not send foreign aid out.
The song also implies a bit of cultural imperialism (even though I believe a lot of ignorant cultures should change for the better, I wouldn't want to set up an empire) by implying we should "let them know its Christmastime".
This is a horrible socialist, imperialist, and Africa-worshipping song that basically takes a dump all over poor people of all colors in the West.

I remember when this song first came out. MTV showed a little documentary about how the musicians rehearsed and recorded this number. It was interesting to see them all coming to the recording studio dressed like slobs and with no makeup on.
As far as songs go, this one isn't that bad. The American "We Are The World" is much worse.
And I definitely agree with you about aid to Africa. We already send billions to them, and the situation never changes there. They still have terrible infectious diseases, yet their population far surpasses ours.
One would think that those people there would try and make the best possible life for any children they do have by educating them, and trying to improve their quality of life. But they don't. It's as if the minute one of them dies, they pop out five more replacements. It's as if those people their do nothing but eat, sleep and screw.
On a past Ask JTF show, Chaim mentioned some Arab man living in Jerusalem who accidentally ran over and killed one of his kids as he was backing out of his driveway. I remember how Chaim said that man was totally nonchalant about it. He was like "no big deal...I have nine more where that one came from." But meanwhile the Israelis were horrified, as we all would be if we ever accidentally killed one of our own children. I guess that's the difference between Western and Third World values.

Lisa I have to wonder if that child's mother felt the same way. Anyway I hate that "We are the World" stuff too.
I didn't forget about that sickening song either:

It has to be one of the most retarded songs ever made.
Most of "the World" is made up of savage people with no culture who will stay that way if left to their own devices for millenia into the future, or more. Giving them help does very little to change anything, as you point out.
I'm not against sending aid entirely, but it should be private charities only who do these things. The U.S. government and other Western nations have no right to steal from their citizens to give it to citizens of other nations when their own citizens are still cold and hungry.
Think of all the elderly, disabled, or otherwise needy or poor people right here in the West who could benefit from this money. If it has to be given to someone, give it to them, not to Africans all the way on the other side of the world!

Rubystars, I also have to wonder if that child's mother felt the same way as her husband. Also, I agree with you about not sending aid to Africa when we have so many poor people in America.
Mord, I agree with you about those songs.

I actually like the music itself.. but the message is horrible. And the people singing should all be *cough cough*

That's what makes it more dangerous. Some people might just like the way it sounds, and be subliminally influenced by the lyrics.
