(CNN) -- Sen. John McCain said Sunday he would not necessarily support his former running mate if she chose to run for president.
Speaking to ABC's "This Week," McCain was asked whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could count on his support.
"I can't say something like that. We've got some great other young governors. I think you're going to see the governors assume a greater leadership role in our Republican Party," he said.
He then mentioned governors Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Jon Huntsman of Utah.
McCain said he has "the greatest appreciation for Gov. Palin and her family, and it was a great joy to know them."
"She invigorated our campaign" against Barack Obama for the presidency, he said.
McCain was pressed on why he can't promise support for the woman who, just months ago, he named as the second best person to lead the nation.
"Have no doubt of my admiration and respect for her and my view of her viability, but at this stage, again ... my corpse is still warm, you know?" he replied.
This is pretty lame of McCain... It is so sad that he was our candidate...

Big surprise... not *rolls eyes*. Everybody knows he just picked what he thought was this poor, ignorant lady to be his fall girl when he threw the election.
But even before this, I knew he wouldn't be supporting Sarah in '12, because he probably won't be around then.

What a LOSER he has now proven himself to be, 100%!
The ONLY reasons I voted for him was a) To stop Obama, and b) Because I liked Palin so much! In fact, before he chose Palin I was only voting for McLame half-heartedly!
-
When I saw the corpse comment I thought it had to be something from the Onion or another satire piece. Yet, it's a genuine quotation. What a jerk McCain is. >:(
-
Anyone seeing McCain speak, or walk, onstage during the past election would know just how accurate McCain's words were. He truly is a walking, talking (albeit barely) corpse.
-
Mccain is more like an evil Ted Kennedy clone. Yimach shmo to this devil.
-
Every time he opens his mouth ...excrement seems to
be emitted
-
Oh no. What a loss. :'( ::)
-
McCain made some horrible comment when asked what her role would be as vice president..
I think he just said to support him - or he said something worse..
-
I agree with all of you. McCain is a spineless worm! All he ever does is spit in the faces of conservatives.
Now what I still don't understand is how throwing the election benefits him. I agree that he purposely lost. But I still don't understand why.

That's because you're very far from being an old man.
He is an old man, he's already faught in a war, that took alot out of him. He didn't think he could win the election anyway, and he wasn't willing to put lots of effort in, because it could worsen his health, e.g. worsen an existing ache , or put his heart under too much work.
-
He's probably planning on supporting Obama, whose ideals are more similar to McCain's than Palin's are.
Newsflash, this schmuck supported Obama all along.

No, that's not it at all. If he was so concerned about his health, he would never have run in the first place. He wanted to hand the election to a black man and make sure Republicans did not win it this time.
-
C.F., if he didn't want the Republicans to win this time, why didn't he switch and become a Democrat?

Because he would not want to compete with his schvartze gd.

By pretending to be a Republican, he can cause more damage. The enemy within is more dangerous than the enemy outside.

It's the best news possible the more McCain stays away the better for Palen it will be. McCain really sickens the Republican party base. How he ever managed to gain the nomination this time really left me scratching my head. He would have liked to be president if it were to happen but he had no distaste for Bushes successor's politics because they are the same as his.
-
I don't care if he doesn't support Palin, the only main reason I supported him was Palin, and she will get 200% of my support
-
I think we all know by now McCain was the decoy to help Republicans loose the election. Sarah is a definite threat to Democrats, and how cleverly they recruited McCain, who they knew would divide the Republican electorate. Never Again, NOT ON OUR WATCH!
PALIN WILL BE READY TO KICK BUT NEXT TIME, WITH NO HOLDS BARRED!

I do believe in a way it will be a blessing in the sense that if Rinos stay away from her and don't support her and yet the Right wing movement does this will benefit her. Remember the lesson what you get when you have a Rino, in the long run it hurts us in an even bigger scale.
