Title: Any advice for headache sufferers?
Post by: zachor_ve_kavod on March 09, 2009, 04:25:15 PM
I get these horrendous headaches.  My son gets them too.  If you know of a way to get rid of a headache other than tylenol or advil, I'd love to hear it.  Any advice?

Just what kind of headache?
Recently, in the North-East, there's been bad weather shifts.
10F then 73F.
That could cause sinus infections or ear infections.
I get sinus infections easily.

It might be caused by pressure.

Hi Zachor, I have had headaches since I was 20 and some are nasty migraines.
I have had really hideous sinus migraines..and for that I suggest Benadryl sever allergy and sinus headache caplets.
They work well but DO NOT DRIVE if you take them, they make you sleepy.
Another sure fire way of dealing with migraines is lay your head down flat and apply hot towels to your face, if the headache
is in the back of your neck put the hot towels there. Heat really does relieve the pain.
You can also use hot and cold towels, alternate them and make sure no TV is on or any other noises. Noise makes migraines worse.
Tylenol has migraine relief for sinuses and other types of headaches, just carefully read the labels and buy the brand that seems suitable
for what type of headache you are suffering from. Applying hot towels will give you instant relief, but you still need to take over
the counter medicine...some may say non drowsy and you buy those if you have to drive to school or work.
I hope you find a way to relieve your headaches, read labels for the right kind of headache relief and apply those hot towels!!!

                                                     Shalom - Dox

You know, we can sit here and guess, but you really need to see a doctor.
Right away.

Some claim nasal irrigation works. (google this if you aren't familar)
I think it depends on the type of headache tho, but many people swear by this method.

I like to close my eyes, get away from people, and lie down with a damp cloth over my eyes after taking Advil.

Are you a coffee drinker?  If so, I would stop.  I used to get lots of headaches when I drank two or sometimes three cups a day.  Once I cut out the coffee, the migraines were drastically reduced.

I have a mild headache right now.
This time it's due to the weather change.
In the northeast, the weather went from 10F to 73F. That gave me a sinus infection right away.
Right now, I feel pressure because of the wet weather and allergies.

I'm allergic to dust, molds, dogs, cats, and general grass.
That means I have breathing problems all year long. more during warm weather.

I'm seeing an allergist.

Nasal irrigation was one of Drs recommendations. it works by cleaning nasal passages. but not deep inside sinuses.
So if some schmuck smokes I can wash it out with water in my nose.
But sinus infection ==> antibiotics.

Another thing Dr told me is nasal steroids.  it takes two weeks or so to work. and you have to keep using it or breathing problems come back. I don't think its worth it to be addicted to nasal steroids.

I suffer from headaches as well and sometimes I have migraines.

For my headaches, usually cold towels, like cold compresses, that I place on my forehead usually do the trick.

The migraines that I suffer from are the result of an accident I had.  For awhile, nothing would work to alleviate the pain.  After seeing several specialists, one doctor gave me a script for Imitrex.  When I have migraines, Imitrex really wipes out the pain.

You should really consult a physician about these headaches.

I know it is terrible to suffer from this ailment.
You should really consult a physician and get a comprehensive diagnosis.
I hope you find relief and find it soon.

If I have a bad headache I usually do 3 steps,  Tylanol, a damp warm face cloth (try this method, take a clean face cloth damp it not too much just a bit in water then stick it in the micro for 15 seconds then place over your fore head.  and 3rd step sleep it off.

Dead right. Give up coffee, in the process dosing yourself with pain killers for a week if necessary to get rid of withdrawal symptoms, and enjoy a new life.

Immediately stop reading or watching news for at least 24 hours.  That should alleviate any headaches for a while.

I share the very same allergies including pollen, ragweed, and some food allegies like avocado, almonds, some melons, kiwi, and a few others.

THE BEST THING YOU WANT TO DO is drink Coca-Cola (regular not diet). DO NOT drink any juices or any other sodas especially orange. A pediatrician once told me the coke trick. Take 3-4 Advil/Tylenol/whatever meds you have. Always take more than neccessary beause these things are weak. Go to a dark, silent room. Get comfortable. Put your head in one position and leave it there. After a few minutes of not moving the pain will go away (until you move it again). I also heard that ---- relieves pain. I don't know, but I'm just putting it out there.

Very true. It's hard not to get your blood pressure raised about the suicidal insane asylum that passes for G-d's Chosen Nation these days.  :'(
