In response to Russia's demand that Israel halt all construction in east Jerusalem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Eli Yishai (Shas) said, "The government of Israel is not the daughter company of any other regime.

Never. But the problem is not France itself but the coalition of powers it joined. I wonder how long current Israeli govt will stand against the pressure and why it decided to resist it at all. It could have easliy given in as it did in case of construction in Judea and Samaria.

It could be a few different reasons behind the resistance to outside pressure. I think that the main one is that Jerusalem is symbolic and giving in there would really set a bad precedence. It may just be that the little bell went off somewhere in Israel warning that giving in now with the administration in Washington would bring on a never ending requests for concessions that in the end would make it impossible for Israel to survive.

In 1780 when they chose to align with the colonists and fight against the British during the Revolutionary War.

If only these were really the reasons of Israeli goverment! It might be a turning point in transforming Israel to a truly independent and respected country.

I think France is actually summoning to put pressure on him and when they say 'freedom of movement' it means for Fakestinians, not Jews.   I read in Arutz Sheva that France is pressuring along with Russia against settlements.
