Has anybody ever been there or learned about it? I find it very interesting.

Yes that is right. However, it's good that nobody is affected by it right now, otherwise there would be even more problems.

An odd piece for this board, but while we're here .....

Famed explorer Thor Heyerdahl (sp?) proved decades ago that the heads were the product of a determined but clearly stone-aged people.  Using rope, logs for wheels, and raw manpower, Heyerdahl and some buddies moved a half-finished head from the quarry in Easter Island and erected it alongside all the others.  It was a huge disappointment and embarrassment to all those who insists ed that Easter Island was the product of some unknown space-age culture.
