Title: No Web Ads
Post by: pennyjangle on January 19, 2010, 02:51:07 PM
There is a simple way to get all advertisements off
any Web page you view, with one click.  It's called
Readability.  If this takes off, Google's marketing plan
will suffer a major hit.

Readability is a free add-on for your toolbar, either
Internet Explorer or Firefox.

When you come to a Web page that is cluttered with
ads, click the Readability button on your toolbar.  Presto:
a screen pops up that looks like a PRINT screen, even if
the site does not offer a print option.

Here is how you get Readability.  First, you view the
short video.

              http://bit.ly/ReadabilityVideo

This video works well for Firefox.  It's not
sufficient for Internet Explorer.  For a short video on IE,

                http://bit.ly/ReadabilityIE

     Then go here:

             http://bit.ly/ReadabilityDownload

Once installed, the program works exactly as
advertised.  No more ads.  Just text.

I've used addblock plus for some time now.  It works great, and once you install it all adds are just gone, and nothing even to click ever.

Never heard of this Readibility but I will check it out.

I have ad block too. What's good about Readability is you click on the icon when you want to post something, then just the text will come up. I've heard people use it to build their websites and for facebook, which I am clueless on both.

I very reluctant on using any new things. I had to restart my whole computer from scratch because I had many Trojan horses and keyloggers on my computer, that was renaming all my files and then preventing me from logging into my computer (safe mode or not).

Sorry I can trust no downloads until I do research into them. If you had my problem and lost 5 years work then you would understand. Most of this work I lost was old archaeology reports that some weren't saved. That set me back alot.

I understand where you are coming from but for your reports shouldn't you save it in hard copy and or micro film too. I always do seconds of any important saving, like you said.......you just never know.

Add Bock Plus is the greatest extension Ive ever used.  Very simple, very powerful.  Ive honestly forgotten that the internet has adds in the first place.

Heh, yeah...It's always weird when I am on someone else's PC who doesn't have it installed and I see adds that I never normally see.

Of course then I always make them switch to firefox and install ABP =p

"Advertising are attacks on personal happiness." - My brother said this as he changed being a business major at GWU for philosophy at NYU.
-Now he wants to be a firefighter...and me an EMT.

-Apparently the "Fisher-Price" toys we had as kids left an impact!

Our's were far more oldschool looking, and cooler than these toys!
