SARAJEVO (Reuters) - Bosnia is planning to send troops next year to join the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan, Defence Minister Selmo Cikotic said on Monday.
"We expect to have a unit in ISAF next year," Cikotic told a year-end news conference, referring to the International Security Assistance Force. He said that his ministry has been drafting a new plan proposing to the country's presidency potential partners for a Bosnian unit in ISAF.
He did not elaborate but local media reported that a Bosnian unit could be part of either the German or Turkish contingent in ISAF. The Balkan country, which is not a member of the NATO military alliance, seconded 10 army officers to Danish and German contingents in Afghanistan this year.
Bosnia has united its rival ethnic armies that fought each other during the 1992-95 war and its NATO-sponsored defence reform is seen as the most successful reform in the country, which remains ethnically divided 14 years after the war's end.
Cikotic told Reuters that a unit slated for Afghanistan would have up to 100 soldiers.
Earlier this month, NATO declined Bosnia's application for its Membership Action Plan (MAP), saying it needed more democratic reforms and a more effective military. The country hopes next year to get into MAP, a roadmap for accession.

Bosnia already sent its troops to Iraq where they are searching along with the Americans for so called biological weaponry, which they will never find.
Now Bosnia wants to search for some men in caves in Afghanistan, who they also are not going to find...

I forgot to add. Only the soldiers of the second entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina are present in Iraq. This counts only for the soldiers from the Croat-Muslim federation. The Serbs from the RS are not part of this. Maybe in the future they will lose their rights to make their own decisions regarding these subjects.
That is also a reason why the EU advocates for the centralization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the elimination of RS.

This is good that Republika Srpska has the right to maintain its own defense policy.

I think everyone's clear on the fact that there are no WMDs in Iraq. But I couldn't care less, let the Muslims and their Croat friends go to Afghanistan to die for no reason like their NATO allies. :celebrate:

Well Bosnia and Herzegovina is not member of the NATO-pact, so they are not obligated to send their troops to foreign countries. They want voluntarily to send troops to overseas country. They think that the US will be gratefully to them..
But the Serbs from RS have no interests in something like this.
The EU representatives will probably say now that Bosnian Muslims are willing to co-operate with the NATO and the Serbs not.
