Yes, she's a leftist, I'm pretty sure, but she is genuinely talented and this piece from a decade ago is one of her best efforts, in my opinion. I also think Alanis is one of the great underrated hotties of our day.
This song is about a semi-consensual relationship that Alanis supposedly had with an adult mentor (a music teacher maybe?) when she was in her teens. He did not rape her, but it was obviously pedophilia nonetheless and colored by the authority he had over her.
