hello shalom!!!! I am glad to be here!! I love this site and all it has to offer.
about my self alittle....
On my mother's father's side I am related to Vilna Gaon. My grandfather and his brothers began Columbia Pictures in the 1920's. My great grandfather, Joe Cohn, from before the turn of the century, his fathers name was yankel cohn and his fathers name was Zalman Cohn. If you know anyone with the surname of bayuk, farber, Palefsky, mintz, pomerantz, brown, friedman or glass, they are most likely related to one of the 25,000 descendents of the Gaon. Some went to Canada from the family. Zalman Palefsky with his brother Elimelech had participated in the failed polish insurrection of 1883 and were forced to flee the russian domination of poland. They were the first of the family roots to leave the home land in kobryn which is today white russia ( byelorussia) others left left forthe usa and Canada around 1880's. Zalman changed his surname name to cohn to elude the czarist authorities and elimelech changed his name to glass and was the grandfather of the composer sammy fain and the vaudeville comedians eugene and willie howard. My family is descended from Vilna Gaon and other important rabbinic scholars.

Ah Good for you JoBella glad to see you on the JTF. You will enjoy it. You are amongst friends here. Should you have any questions about JTF or anything please feel free to post questions to Chaim ben Pesach on Ask JTF. He is the Chairman or President of this organization and was the Chair of Rabbi Meir Kahane's Jewish Defence League (JDL): a righteous Orthodox Jew. He will be elated to find out a relative of the Vilna Gaon is here with him in JTF. He always speaks VERY highly of the Gaon. We all should only attempt to be as righteous.... Funny that you mentioned your Hollywood ancestors.... My great uncle is Louis B. Meyer... from the competition MGM...lol My grand mothers side is Wilhelm Fuchs or William Fox from 20th century Fox. My Great Grandfather lost a card game amongst family and had to name his first born after William.... so my grandmother's name was Sylvia Fox Schmuckler (Smith). They are all buried in St. John NB next to Meyer's parents in the Shaarei Tzadek Cemetery...

wowsers!!! MZ this is too much!!
yeah harry cohn was my grandfathers brother. maxwell cohn was a brother also, his two daughters judy and lenora. lenora married 1st belden jewelers, divorced him and then married schenleys liquor rosensteil, divorced him for walter annenberg. she lost him a few years ago. she is my mothers first cousin. they dont talk ( bad family feelings) much because when max's wife clara died, he got married to some floosy who didnt want his two daughters. he put them in an orphanage. nice family huh? harry took them out and raised them. tragic family. could have been really good but sadly very tragic.....

Yes, it seems this bad family luck passes to the next generation when Hashem is not involved... This is one of the main goals/affects of Socialism/Communism/Liberalism....as stated by Marx himself...distroy the Family, Culture, G-d, Nation, Eternal Truths, Morality etc. Every day I am reminded of this when I walk down the street.... scum, ignorance and degeneracy everywhere... You know.. Instead of sending your son for another degree you might consider sending him to a Yeshiva/Ulpan in Jerusalem to gain more knowledge in Hebrew and Judaism..... Much better than another "degree" from some Fabian University.....
-
true MZ, this is what i wanted him to do in the first place. now maybe he will....
-
My friend is now at a Yeshiva in Jerusalem called Machon Meir. Should you need, I can contact Moshe and perhaps Moshe might have him over for Shabbat or something...
