I received the results of my genetic test from Genetree (which appears to be a legitimate lab company. It appeared on 60 minutes and 20/20).
My mother's mtDNA haplogroup is H (the subgroup I don't know). My father's is Subgroup: R1b1b2*-M269. I'm Italian on both sides.
Does anyone know to what nationality/location these haplogroups correspond?
thnx

This might help?

R1b is the most common gene found in western europe, H originates from southwest asia/middle east

H = 'Y-Adam' > M168 > M89 > M69
Ancestors of Haplogroup H migrated along the Eurasian Steppe 'highway' from the Middle East around 45,000 years ago continuing toward India. During this journey over hundreds of generations, a man was born approximately 30,000 years ago with the M69 marker, which now defines the H lineage. Today this lineage is nearly completely restricted to the regions of preset day India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Just out of curiosity IZ, why did you get this test done?

Hi W.I.
I used genetree. They were featured on 20/20 and 60 minutes. I would assume they are legitamate. The test is free if you have grandparent, parents, etc, who are from eastern Europe. Other labs are very expensive.

Hi Lisa,
To tell you the truth, I had the test done because all my life I have been mistaken for other nationalities...Sephardic, ashkenazi, turkish, even Arab. People never say I look Italian.
I thought I was going to result in a either ashkanazi or Sephardic ( Haplo J). I'm kind of disappointed. I've been told all my life that I look "Jewish".
-
Can I ask: how much did the test cost? Thanks
-
genetree.com
If your family comes from eastern europe it costs only $49 .
-
I'm surprised they don't send an explanation of the haplogroups along with the information they send you
-
Actually they did. I just wanted to know if it was accurate. The only thing they say is that "haplo h" is the most common in Europe.

H is still common in the middle east as well, middle easterners are Caucasian like Europeans and Levantines share more in common with Eastern Mediterranean than they do with other Arab populations.
DNA isn't the only way to class what you are, if your into anthropology, you can identify someone based on appearance and phenotypes as well.

One thing to keep in mind is this... There is physical DNA and there is spiritual DNA. I have heard some Rabbis speak of the Jewish spiritual DNA, which sometimes occur in people who are not born into a Jewish family. Spiritual DNA is one explanation why some special people want to do a full Orthodox conversion in order to join (or re-join) the Jewish people. There is no test in this world to verify whether you have a Jewish soul. The only way to know if you have a Jewish Neshama is if you feel a desire to do the commandments of the Torah, and to serve Hashem with all your hearts and all your soul.

Is there not one where they take like a swab of saliva from your mouth and do a dna family report like that?
-
I've done both quantum blood testing and mouth swab.
