DETROIT (AP) — Wayne State University says it'll no longer offer the Helen Thomas Spirit of Diversity Award, citing recent comments made by the longtime journalist.

In a statement Friday, the Detroit school says it "encourages free speech and open dialogue," but strongly condemns what it says are "anti-Semitic remarks" made by Thomas on Thursday.

According to The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press, the Wayne State alumna said during a speech in Dearborn that Congress, the White House, Hollywood and Wall Street are owned by "Zionists."

Thomas resigned in June as a Hearst Newspaper columnist over comments she made calling on Israelis to get "out of Palestine."

Thomas was born to Lebanese immigrants in Kentucky and raised in Detroit. She worked much of her career as a United Press International reporter.

Thank Heaven that some institutions realize what an evil witch Helen Thomas (HT) is. Imagine getting the HT award!? What normal human being would not throw it back in the face of the one giving it...

The statue looks better than she does, if that creature qualifies as a "she".

It would have been perfectly fitting for Wayne State to have given Helen Thomas that award anyway.  And let me be clear what I mean:  It would have been a fitting statement about the twisted state of higher education.

If you doubt that, note that the decision to withhold that award came only after Helen Thomas' most recent blast.  Apparently, they were all prepared to give her a pass on that one from several months ago.

By the way, if you're not aware, Wayne State University is in southeastern Michigan, and the region has a HUGE Arab population.

Now, Now lets not make it worse then it actually is...  ::) Let's be fair here... She was only a young girl starting out when Madison was in office the bust shows her at a much older age... :yuck: It had to be JFK

They gave that bust a serious face lift, notice how the right side of her face is totally slack when compared to the left.  The bust made them parity, making her slightly less hideous

She is probably old enough to settle the evolution vs. creation debate.
