This is so annoying.
I had to leave work early Thursday afternoon. I took off Friday, and I'm home today. The doctor gave me an antibiotic, some cough suppressing pills, and Nasonex, which you're supposed to snort up your nose. Anyway, I don't feel much better today. Granted, my chest is no longer sore, but I'm still coughing and all congested. I'm going back to the doctor this afternoon. It's also embarrassing since I've only been at my job for five weeks.

Lisa, I think a lot of people have been getting this. My wife had it for 2-3 weeks. It could be bacterial or viral infection.
I heard that Robetussin CF helps with the coughing and the congestion. Finish your antibiotics. Rinse with warm salt water regularly. Have plenty of orange juice and hot water/tea with honey. The coughing will get to you, but after a couple of weeks it will get much better. Also if you have a humidifier use that too.
And if you just got the cough recently, it's not bronchitis. Probably a sinus infection of some type.

I had it about 4 months ago was in the Hospital for 3 days it was so bad

Hi Lisa.
I hope you feel better soon.
Rest up. Drink fluids.
Don't worry about work. I'm sure they realize it's cold and flu season.

I had it last March. I had the flu, then when that went away the Bronchitis kicked in. When I went to hospital, the PA gave me codein cough syrup. It took 3 days for the meds to work. Feel better

Sorry to hear, Lisa. Refuah Shelema.
5 weeks isn't bad, at least it's not the first or second week! They have gotten to know you by now and I'm sure they realize anyone can get sick. Don't worry.
-
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'm going to have my doctor's office fax them something since this will be the third day I'm out.
Yesterday, I went back to the doctor. She says I have an upper, and lower respiratory infection. She prescribed cough medicine with codeine in it. I took some last night, and was able to sleep better.

I have to echo IZ. Lack of sleep is the easiest way to kill your immune system. You have to work on that.
-
Everyone's pretty much got it covered.
I can only add good luck and rest. Or should that be excersize?
When I'm sick, after a rest, I just have to get up and walk around at the least. Staying idle too long makes me about as weak and tired.

Feel better Lisa... I keep a bottle of "Overproof" rum around for just such an occasion... A nice juice glass filled about four fingers high is enough to deal with the most stubborn cases of cold and flue... The stuff smells like paint thinner and the taste stays around for days.... By the following morning most of the cold symptoms are gone and I wake up refreshed and rested :::D.... This should only be used as a stand alone remedy there is no telling what could happen if the "overproof" and conventional meds mix together :o.....
-
Very sorry to hear about this Lisa. I will pray for a speedy recovery.

The codeine will really help suppress the cough. If you want to make your bronchial secretions less thick and easier to cough up, try a mucolytic like Mucinex (OTC). Feel better. The codeine will really help
-
Thanks JTF Enthusiast2.
Is it safe to take Mucinex along with the prescription cough medicine?

Thanks JTF Enthusiast2.
Is it safe to take Mucinex along with the prescription cough medicine?
Prescription cough medicine sometimes has guaifenisin (mucinex) in it. I can't give medical advice on this forum. I can say that I have taken prescription cough medicine and Mucinex when I needed extra mucinex to thin out and get rid of that thick junk. Quick way to make sure that it is right for you is to just ask your pharmacist. If a cough medicine has no Mucinex and the pt has no allergies, the pt can take Mucinex 600 mg three times a day with plenty of fluids. Always check with your pharmacist and/or doctor to be safe.
