For those of you in the path of Hurricane Irene, please stay safe and let us know you're ok, would really appreciate it, thanks! Be careful and we will all pray for your safety.

Thanks arksis... As of now here on Long Island we would never know anything bad was coming... It's a very nice summer night... I am sort of on high ground here so my problem is with the wind and trees... A good part of Long Island however is close to sea level so them poor people even have flooding to deal with... What can we do ... The last major storm was about 20 years ago so I guess we were due... G-d willing the damage will not be too bad and everyone stays safe. During the last storm we lost power for 2 weeks however the phone lines which looked far more susceptible to damage survived the storm with flying colors... I personally have backup power here however if I loose the phone line I may be away from the forum for the duration of the repairs... G-d willing the phone lines which have been fully updated will hold up again this time around.

I live in Queens, a fairly good distance from the water hazard however you can't underestimate the wind damage that can occur with a Cat 1 Storm.

I have a feeling Hurricane Shaniqua might be worse then hurricane Irene in some places... Once the power goes out all bets are off... The trick is to be prepared for all eventualities in a storm like this wind, rain, and marauding [censored].

Looting is a very serious concern in a situation like this.
Especially for businesses and homeowners FORCED to evacuate their premises.

Of course. Wasn't saying he was wrong, just thought it was very funny the way he phrased it. of course he is right, looting could be a problem God forbid. The rain and wind is getting stronger now. But I'm going to sleep.

I agree with you Kahane-Was-Right BT. It was really funny. I hope you will be safe during the storm. The wind is so bad it woke my dog, who woke me. :coffee: It's going to be a long night.

We have already had plenty of rain the last few hours. With much more to come. Where I am, the wind is the greatest concern. The wind should be picking up substantially shortly. With 2011 setting the record for the most rain in a month of August since records have been kept, this additional very heavy rain ( combined with high winds ) could lead to many trees coming down. With many power lines coming down as a result.

Such chains of Hurricanes are quite unpredictable in nature, direction, strength and places.

I can think of worse natural disasters but the problem is wishing anything on the region you have to be careful it doesn't also harm Israel.

Maybe the 'Ananei HaKavod' would assist in this situation? It would certainly be miraculous if the 'Clouds of Glory' would reappear and protect Israel from the wrath of the storm...

While I did get a couple of inches of water filling much of my basement which I didn't expect, all things considering this storm could have been MUCH worse. Thankfully, the wind was far less than the damaging wind from Hurricane Gloria in 1985.

Muman if Israel was supernaturally protected then a moderate meteor strike in the region would do a lot of damage to the Muslims.
Some are smaller though. Realistically there could be one that's just large enough to wipe out Mecca.

Glad to see that the storm didn't cause the type of damage in Great Neck that it could have potentially caused. I agree that G-d had mercy on New York. One thought that did come to mind is this storm was a warning for New York that Same Sex Marriage is not acceptable.
According to the LIPA outage map, it looks like much of Great Neck, Kings Point, and especially Manhasset are still w/o power. The power outages in Nassau County are very wide spread.

I think the media was blowing this storm out of proportion to get our focus off the big issues such as the debt, muslim terror and illegal immigration.

I am of the belief that no matter what G-d may send to scrub the dirt from the region will not harm the good Jews of Israel. My experience is that Hashem provides cover in miraculous ways.

Alive and kicking. It hit the NYC metro area around 6am Sunday. Some flooding, but OK.

Thank G-d the storm in my case was not 1/10 of what they predicted... Some high winds took out the power at 4 am on Sunday and it just came back tonight.. No damage to my property just a large mess of twigs and leaves... :)... I had stand by power but sadly the the power was not getting to all the things needed to get me on line... I really missed being on the forum... Anyway glad to see most people only had minor inconveniences as I did and that the storm was sort of a wash out.
