interesting thats brought up because I did a DNA test and I cluster closely to Italians too, primarily Tuscans, these are my DNA results.

My DNA markers are Middle Eastern (J1C3 P58)

This is very similar to Dr Mcdonalds results indicating a cluster with Tuscan Italians and Jewish listed as about a quarter ancestry. Many Jews seem to cluster close to Italians and Greeks, Levantine populations including Assyrians seem to cluster closer to Southern Europeans as well.

Also let me explain about what these tests mean, it does not mean that Jews are closely related to Italians, how these tests determine is based on your admixture and who would have similar admixtures, Italians have very similar features and genetics to Jews primarily because they are a Mediterranean people.

I can't complain though as I do like Italian food.

Sensible considering Jews first settled Europe during the Roman times as people living in the Roman empire.   In that era there was a lot of conversion so I imagine those with Roman/Italian ethnicity intermixed with Jews.

Not to mention Phoenicians had the same DNA as Israelites, they set up colonies all around the Mediterranean, J1C3 haplotype is extremely rare outside of the middle east, same with G2c.

Strange then that the article didn't mention Malta.

Malta is primarily semitic ancestry, the Canary islands were Semitic at one time as well. You can see where this "semitic" marker is usually found in high frequencies

Yes it's accurate, the website is http://www.23andme.com

my mother converted to Judaism and she is German, my fathers Syrian and Romanian Jewish.

They send you a kit and you spit in a tube, there's a cap that screws on and releases a preserving fluid and takes about 6-8 weeks to get your results, the company tests about 1,000,000 of your single nucleotide polymorphs and from there they test frequencies and are able to determine your haplotype from an ancient ancestor as well as modern admixtures.

Arabs and Jews share similar DNA haplotypes but Arabs have different admixture, they will show more mixture of west asian as well as south asian and African (east and west African), Jews show less African and more a mixture of Southern European and Middle Eastern. Assyrians also show a similar admixture with no negroid blood but South European with Middle Eastern.
