Gunmen bar Libyan Jew from entering Tripoli synagogue

Gunmen barred Libyan Jew David Gerbi from entering the old central synagogue in Tripoli two days after he announced his intention to renovate the dilapidated building, media reported on Monday.
"A man came and said, 'You need to stop now. There are men coming with guns and you will be killed,'" said Gerbi, wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the words "I Love Libya" and holding a scroll inscribed with "Hashem", the Hebrew word for G-d.
A companion of Gerbi's said four men armed with rifles had come to the synagogue as he tried to enter.
On Saturday Gerbi ceremoniously broke down a barrier at the entrance to the building with a sledgehammer announcing his intention to renovate the dilapidated Jewish house of worship. "I plan to restore the synagogue," the Jewish psychologist, who fled Libya with his parents to Italy when he was 12, emotionally said.
"I plan to get the passport back, I plan to resolve the problem of the confiscated property, individual and collective. I plan to help rebuild Libya, to do my part.”
Jews had lived in Libya for millennia until they were forced to leave by a series of porgoms and anti-Semitic legislation enacted by the government. Leaders of the Libyan Jewish diaspora have been in talks with Tripoli for years over the return of their rights and property.

While I admire the Jewish pride this man has, he also has tunnel vision. Jews should make aliyah to Israel instead of restoring synagogues in anti semitic nazi countries like Libya.

You know in one city they were killing all people who come from Africa cutting some heads off.The reason qaddafi had about a 1000 African mercenaries working for him.But over a million and half just are there as guest workers but the qurananimals didn't care.It was on U.S. T.V.

Absolutely. He is a brave man for wanting to do what he wants to do. Again, there are more important and better things to do, but definitely I applaud what he wants to do. It's just that...all that hard work in a Nazi country..it will be all for naught.

This is totally sick. I don't like Muslim Nazi leaders, like Mubarrak, Ben Ali, Assad and Gaddafi, but this salafi Muslim extremist, who are now taking over are for shure worse. I hate their cruel crimes. It simply makes me puke. This is no Arab spring, it is a Muslim Nazi spring. For them this is normal, but for people who are no Nazis or Muslims it is disgusting and horrible.

True but the left is in love with these thugs
