R. Ovadia Yoseph Agrees to Free Would-be Assassin

As expected, Rabbi Ovadia Yoseph agreed, Sunday, to the release of Salah Tamori, the terrorist being held for planning to assassinate him in 2005, as part of the second phase of releases of security prisoners in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. The list of prisoners to be released is scheduled to be finalized this week.
The rabbi's agreement was announced after a meeting with French Ambassador to Israel Christophe Bigot. Tamori is a French citizen, and the French government has sought his release.

No one asked the families of the actual victims of terror if they agreed when R. Yosef and the govt he sits in made deals to free thousands of terrorists. Why does he have to give permission for his would-be assassin to be released?

Very good question now that you mention it.... I hope they did not seek his 'permission' or else that would not be ethical.

Sad but what else is new. With something like 79% of Israelis wanting this "exchange" there was little or nothing that any victim's families could have done to oppose it. I'm not a fan of ROY but this doesn't really fall on him.
When 79% of Israelis start opposing these abominations, then they'll stop. But as things stand, when Lewinsky or other PMs ask the Israeli people to jump, they ask "how high".
