I still have not quite figured out why some cats are friends with mice and some cats are enemies to mice. In my life I have had over 10 cats and some of my cats don't mind mice and play with them, and other cats I have had will kill mice as quickly as possible...
I also have two outside cats who are involved in a monogamous relationship. They eat, sleep, and play together and get jealous when other cats are around.

I think even if a cat is friendly toward a smaller animal that the situation can't be trusted. One day instinct may kick in suddenly even if that particular cat's hunting sense is weaker than others. I think the very nature of a cat is to kill things, that's what they're designed to do.
