Title: Problem With Website - WOT
Post by: shmuel on October 22, 2012, 01:11:29 PM
There's a popular free plug-in to Firefox called Web of Trust (WOT) that warns people of untrustworthy websites. They get their ratings from user input.

Apparently lots of Arabs or antisemites marked JTF.org as untrustworthy, so a pop-up says the site is untrustworthy. This is something that could scare away potential users. See the attached file for the rating details.

I suggest we mount a campaign on the website to mark the site as trustworthy.

Hi Shmuel,

WOT is definitely an addon you shouldn't use! It's spyware. They make money by tracking every site you visit and your web browsing habits and sell your information to the highest bidder.

From their own "private" policy:
Quote
WOT has partnered with a third-party search provider to provide you with certain search functionalities. Such functionalities shall be subject to the Privacy Policy of the third-party search provider. The search provider can collect and store your search activity (your queries, search results selected, clicks, pages viewed, etc.) to provide better search results to you, to improve its services and for other such purposes as may be set out in the applicable Privacy Policy. The third-party search provider may share the collected search activity data with its vendors and other third parties as set out in more detail in the applicable Privacy Policy. Search queries stored by the third-party search provider are anonymized after 18 months except in situations set out in the applicable Privacy Policy.

And it's only going to give a warning for users who manually go out and install this terrible addon/extension/plugin.

They have had us as "untrusted" for a very long time now - which just shows that it's only a popularity contest and how unreliable their "service" actually is. And by the way, this piece of junk addon also slows down your browser.

Our site has NO tracking cookies, we never share your information with anyone, and we really do put privacy and security at the top of the list.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. And definitely uninstall it from your browser! You don't want it to collect and sell your personal and private information.

Thank you for your support and concern for JTF and our continued growth and success, G-d willing.

I am all for the WOT... The WAR ON TERROR, and it should be prosecuted agressively... We should leave no jihadist alive, making sure to eliminate the imams and spiritual leaders of these diseased souls.
