Title: Why in the US there is no head of opposition to the President ?
Post by: Zelhar on January 25, 2013, 08:43:43 AM
In parliamentary systems like in the UK and Israel, the minute a new Government is formed there is an official head of the opposition. It's not the office that counts though, as much as that there is all the time a counter to the government that presents to the public the alternative or what actions they think should be taken.

In the US you don't have anyone who tries to present a real alternative and opposition to the president. You obviously have two opposing forces in the Congress but that's not the same. The party that lost the presidential race should nominate their sort of anti-president to head the opposition to the president. Then before the next elections there can still be primaries for the nomination.

Because its a 2 party system. The opposing party is seen by default as being the opposition.

The UK is also a 2-party system.

The only opposition to a tyrant for a leader is to form militias. That's why the founding fathers thought it was so important that the citizens arm themselves to over throw a misbehaving government.
That's why the current tyrant wants to take away your guns.

The US has minority leaders in both houses of congress. Though the house is majority republicans, so the speaker of the house John Bo(eh)ner is basically the opposition leader (and a really bad one at that).

when they are in power, yes.
not when the people revolt.
