He is guilty of plotting but he didn't actually do anything.
What's everyone's take on this?
Should they be able to put someone in jail for life for thought crime?

Sick people like that need to be kept off the street. I shudder every time I hear about this story.

Not only should he be in prison every single person who openly fantasizes about cannibalism, the operators of the cannibal fetish site, and all people posting on the cannibal forum should be in prison

Besides those who are kind to the cruel become cruel to the kind. It was smart move to remove this vermin from our midst. There is no sense in being trivial about it.
I certainly wouldn't mind it if a cannibal site was completely illegal like pedophilia is illegal.

While it is a sin to 'fantasize' about such things I do not agree that one should be incarcerated unless there is a threat to society.
There is a lot of sickness in the movies today, murder, rape, violence, hatred, adultery, bestiality, and idol-worship which is permitted by the media. That some things are still taboo is a miracle. But I don't believe in 'thought crimes' in the secular sense...
If this guy is guilty, so too are all the producers, writers, and actors who produce the smut which hollywood creates...

since the wife placed spyware and keyboard loggers and the FBI was involved, why didn't they place a 'sting'?
Why didn't they have a female cop 'victim' and a male 'customer'? Catch him in the act.

How would u have a sting operation for a cannibal? Wait for him to take a bite?

that's not my problem.
they do buy and bust for drugs.
they catch child porn peddlers by having someone pose as the victim.
why not have a female cop victim and buyer?

Well I don't know but frankly don't care. I am not too concerned about the legal rights of cannibals.

I'm not so concerned about HIM, but that the courts can put you in jail for life for a thought crime. At the same time, they let murderers go free. How does that work?
They can send him a swordsman as far as I'm concerned.

It wasn't a thought crime. He planned the attacks with two people who were very willing to give money to him for "fresh meat". He planned everything to the detail. If someone wrote on the Internet their plans to bomb a building to the dot and tried to raise funds for it at the same time they would rightfully also be imprisoned

That's true...there would have been more validity to the guilty verdict if they did that. It would have worked in Law in Order, so why not in this situation?

no. they let all the terrorists go free.
what about the army psycho hasan who murdered fellow soldiers. they won't convict him. He actually did commit murder.
