"chevre" is a Hebrew slang term for "friends" or "guys"

Oh I see. I think you mean "chaver" which is the singular for friend and "chaverim" which is plural. The word "chevre" is French for goat.

Chevre is slang, he got it right. It sounds like chev-re, whereas the French word you said perhaps sounds like che-ver doesn't it ?
