It took me time to comprehend they mean he went into the pit to lurk inside a cesspool,  all the human waste and the chemicals.

I  misread this as "man caught peeing inside portable toilet"  and didn't know what was wrong with it.

 Now that I read it right, that guy is a sick lowlife! And in a portable one, the nastiest type of restroom ever. Sick psycho.
