Title: 1948 significance
Post by: imaknick on December 10, 2013, 10:17:37 PM
Does anyone know the Jewish explanation or reasoning for Abraham being born in 1948 after Adam and the state of Israel being born in 1948 AD?

I am not sure what you are talking about...

Abraham was born in 1948 on the Jewish calendar (based from the date of creation of Adam).

It is a coincidence (if you believe in them) that that was the year that the modern state of Israel was created. I don't think that this was done on purpose, but it is an interesting fact to note.

There is no 1948 "AD". There is 1948 AM and CE. Abraham was born in the former while the State of Israel was born in the latter. AM is Anno Mundo. AD is was Xtians call "the year of our lord". For Jews, G-d is infinite. He is above time. So he existed before any year count. Anno Mundo means from the Year of Creation (of Adam).

Some people also use the term BCE (before the common era) to refer to the time before the Christian era began.

I know. But BCE and AM are not the same. BCE is infinite going back minus the supposed year the J man was born. AM specifically counts from Adam.

1948 AM was about 1813 BCE.

1948 = Jewish year 5708 - תש"ח = תשוב= "Return" in gematria.

It is said that every year ending in 8 has an increased Messianic potential & the Vilna Gaon predicted the year 5708 would be special
