Title: Is it illegal to offer Carson, money to leave the race for president?

I read a survey that the same type of people who vote for Cruz, also vote for Carson.
Is it legal for one of the friends of Cruz to offer Carson, big bucks to leave the race to free up more voters for Cruz?
I don't know the laws.
It's also possible that someone on the Trump side is funding Carson to stay in or giving him personal gifts.
 I want to make it clear I have no current evidence that Trump is actually doing this.
I will say since Carson is black it is a bit hard to understand why he is indirectly helping the friend of David Duke, namely, Trump, unless he has personal interests to stay in the race.
Or if I want to be fair, maybe Trump has promised him to be VP if he stays in the race. Who knows?
