Beaten by Israel’s Or Sasson, Egyptian Islam El Shehaby refused to bow or shake hands.

His reaction was met by boos and jeers of the dojo’s audience in Carioca Arena 2.

“He was not obligated to shake hands, but he had to bow, that is why he was called back and he (eventually) did” said a spokesman of the International Judo Federation (IJF). “However, Islam’s attitude will be examined after the games to see if additional measures will be taken.”

An incident had already occurred at the beginning of the competition, when the Lebanese delegation blocked Israeli athletes from getting on their bus leading to the opening ceremony.

Israelis are also being harassed by Muslims in Rio. The other day Muslims harassed and blocked them from getting on a bus, so the Israelis had to take a different bus so there wouldn't be a conflict.
