Title: Bad cultures
Post by: RationalThought110 on September 25, 2007, 12:55:09 PM
What do you consider to be bad cultures to conflict with your beliefs or values?

What else do you consider in addition to communism, wahabism and Sharia law.

Speaking of communism and socialism, aren't they similar to Sharia law.  For example, Venezuela seems to becoming more like Iran.  In fact, Iran's president is scheduled to travel to Venezuela to meet with Chavez.

They all try to control the minds of people.

To quote a communist in Vietnam:

"“Ho Chi Minh may have been an evil man; Nixon may have been a great man. The Americans may have had the just cause; we may not have had the just cause. But we won and the Americans were defeated because we convinced the people that Ho Chi Minh is the great man, that Nixon is a murderer, and the Americans are the invaders… The key factor is how to control people and their opinions. Only Marxism-Leninism can do that.”
- Mai Chi Tho, Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party
(New York Times Magazine, March 29, 1981)"

"Lenin taught us to be merciless towards the enemies of the revolution, and millions of people had to be eliminated in order to secure the victory of the October Revolution.”
- Nur Muhammad Taraki, Afghan communist dictator
(Christopher Andrew and Vasili Mitrokhin, The Mitrokhin Archive II: The KGB and the World [London: Penguin, 2006], p389)"

Sounds just like the attitudes and behaviors of Islamic Jihad.

"Absolute power is when a man is starving and you are the only one able to give him food.”
- Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwean dictator
(The Times, UK, July 9, 2004)"

I'm not sure if my answer fits with what you're asking, but here's mine: American black culture.

I simply don't relate to hip hop and rap music. It grates against my sensibilities. I find it ugly, profane, dumb, and insincere -- the opposite of what I find alluring.

I caught the first few minutes of Nightline last night and they were making a huge deal out of a rap "star." I couldn't stomach it and so I turned it off.

I don't care for how (many) blacks dress, wearing baggy jeans past their cracks and making a big deal about gold chains and sneakers. All in all I don't care for their culture and their views about things in general. Their whole propensity for violence and hate is OFF THE CHARTS!!!

1. Any culture which tries to control the people and not allow them to their free will.

2. Any culture which denies good loving religions to rule over people including the king/prime minister etc.

3. Any culture which promotes xenophobism, haughtiness, undo patriotism/jingoism.

i think that this music is a sign of our culture's decadence. Even people of European descent stoop to the lowest common deniminator. It's much easier to devolve than to evolve.

Hip Hop has its own beat and I think its quite catchy, and clever in itself. Its the people and their lyrics, that are quite evil and in general all hip hop songs do not promote anything much but evil.

The early hip hop songs contained no violence. It wasn't until the 90's that gangsta rap came out and pretty much set the standard for what white America would think of black people in general. I myself am into some of Ice Cube's rap music but only the raps that aren't offensive or violent. But I'm mostly in love with the hip hop of the late 70's, 80's and early 90's.

I looks like #1 and #2 contradict each other.

By #2, do you mean when freedom of religion is denied?

All of hip hop culture isn't a glorification of negativity. Gangster rap is, though. In order to know the difference, I think you shoudl have to listen to different rap groups or solo artists to tell the difference between Gangster rap and real hip hop.
