Croatians, who keep claiming that Nikola Tesla is a Croatian, just because he was born in what today is Croatia.
Nikola Tesla, son of the Serbian Ortodox priest, was born in 1856 in Austian Empire, wich later became Austo-Hungarian Empire. Croatia was not even a country back then. And when they become a country, by the orders of Adolf Hitler, in 1941 (Independent State of Croatia), Nikola Tesla's familly members where being killed by Croatians. In total, Croatians killed 91 members of Tesla familly.

The ethnonym Croat is inherited from Proto-Slavic times. Croatia exists longer than you think.
There is no reason why Croatia can't celebrate a man who was born here. Tesla himself said: "Smatram svojom dužnošću da kao rođeni sin svoje zemlje pomognem Gradu Zagrebu u svakom pogledu savjetom i činom."
"I consider it my duty as a born son of my land to help the city of Zagreb in every way with advice and deed."
This quote is found on Tesla's memorial plaque in Zagreb's Upper Town.

Tesla was an ethnic Serb. His parents were Serbs. Many members of Tesla family were killed during WW2 by Ustashas. However we must face the fact that Tesla would never accomplished anything if he stayed in Balkans.
