Politically correct guns.

You may think there's no such thing but there are (sort of).

If you live in a juristiction run by rabid, anti-gun hystericals you may find certain firearms illegal (even though other Americans can own them) or at least frowned-upon. Military style rifles & shotguns may be outlawed as 'assault weapons'. Handguns with a capacity of more than 10 rounds may be illegal too. Even if you own weapons like these that are technically legal, they may draw unwanted attention from LE or cause panic amongst the populace if sighted.

There some firearms that are very useful for self-defense/survival that are only considered 'sporting arms' and draw little attention.

Ruger SP101:

The 'little' Ruger is a gem. Only 5 shots but it's quick, compact and light. Best of all it's the only small frame revolver strong enough to fire a steady diet of .357 magnums. It will also fire the less powerful (and less recoil!) .38 Special/.38 Special +P and .38 Super ACP. It's stainless steel for long life and no-rust. This powerful revolver is easy to conceal as well.

Best of all, it hardly looks like a 'Dirty Harry' gun if you end up in court for self-defense.

On sale for around $450 usually.

Remington 870 Express Deer Gun:

The Remington 870 is considered the best of pump-action shotguns. A favorite of the military and police departments for decades, over 3 million have been produced. While many 'riot' or 'combat' shotguns may be considered 'assault weapons' the Deer Gun is one of the most common sporting arms in America despite the fact that it is virtually identical to the police/military weapons. It has a 20" bbl (same as many 'riot' guns, a 4 round magazine (same as most 'riot guns' until recently) plus the advantage of a superior Improved Choke and rifle sights.

To a cop, it's just another deer gun that he's seen in every second pickup or SUV.

On sale at $399 and less.

Marlin 336

The classic 30/30 lever action. The Marlin is fast to shoot, reliable and accurate out to 200 yards. The 30/30 ammo is available EVERYWHERE in the USA and often at very cheap prices (for sporting ammo). This round has superb stopping power on any target under 500 lbs.

Research has shown these rifles to cause little or no alarm to the public. Most people associate these arms with 'old cowboy movies'. To the police, they are just another one of millions of deer rifles and hardly raise an eyebrow.

On sale usually at $299!

Stevens 200 in .308 Win:

The bargain of the century. The Stevens 200 in just a 'no-frills' Savage 110. It sells for $300 brand new and is as strong and accurate as rifles costing two and three times what it does. The .308 cal is the same as 7.62 NATO allowing you to utilise cheap military surplus ammo. Add a good quality scope and for under $600 you've got a superb long range scout rifle. At around 6.5 lbs it's a joy to carry, too.

Best of all it's just another bolt-action sporter to any on-looker.
