 This is shocking  >:(

A PACK of more than 20 youths, some as young as 10, celebrated after a violent street attack on an off-duty police officer and his partner at Coolangatta yesterday.

A girl led the attack and when the officer's girlfriend went to his aid, the would-be rescuer was dragged to the ground by her hair and repeatedly bashed.

A male youth then king-hit the officer while another kneed him. As he fell to the ground, the officer was repeatedly kicked and punched by members of the group.

The youths later gave each other celebratory "high-fives" as the officer and his girlfriend lay bleeding on the concrete footpath. A girl then kissed one of the youths who had punched the officer.

The sickening attack, which police said was unprovoked, was filmed by nearby closed-circuit security cameras. Police are now using the footage to assist their investigation.

While the film suggests it was a random attack, robbery may also have been a motive, police said.
Investigators said they were not aware of the youths being linked to any local gang, although some of the attackers were wearing designer clothes often associated with violent American street culture.

The attack was not related to Schoolies celebrations, police said.

The 27-year-old officer sustained a suspected fracture to his cheek bone along with cuts to his face. His girlfriend, in her early 20s, was severely bruised. Both were released from Tweed Heads Hospital late yesterday.

"It's quite amazing that he wasn't far more seriously injured," said Acting Inspector Marc Hogan.

"It's a particularly nasty assault. It's being captured on closed circuit television. There doesn't appear to be any provocation. I don't think they realised he was an off duty police officer."

The couple were walking along Dutton Street at Coolangatta just before 1am yesterday when they were attacked.

The footage shows a young female suddenly run at the officer and throw punches at him.

After he was king-hit and fell to the ground, the footage shows an older youth climbing on top of a fence so he could jump on the prone officer. One of the youths then stole the officer's wallet, the footage shows.

Minutes later, another camera in a nearby convenience store filmed that youth shopping with a fist full of cash.

Other youths gathered several blocks away in Coolangatta streets, where they celebrated by slapping each other's hands and hugging each other. The complete footage viewed by The Sunday Mail showed the youths walking aimlessly around the Tweed Heads area.

"I've seen the footage. It's particularly disturbing that these kids are loitering around with no real purpose," Inspector Hogan said.

"It's happened very quickly. The other worrying thing is there are kids there, judging by their size, who look about 10 years of age.

"I'm a parent. When I saw this, I had to wonder do their parents know their kids are out and about this time in the morning."

Police Minister Judy Spence late yesterday said she had spoken to the injured officer and he was in good spirits.

Police have not released any personal information about the officer, except to say he was a constable.

"He's making a statement to the Burleigh CIB. Hopefully he can make some identifications," Ms Spence said.

She said parents had to start taking some responsibility for their young children.

"I don't think there is any excuse for people under 17 to be out alone at night unsupervised," she said.

"Parents need to know where there teenagers are. There is no excuse for this type of violence."

Detectives at Burleigh CIB interviewed the couple late yesterday and last night had been able to identify some of the youths, whom they believed were from the Chinderah area in northern New South Wales.

Police plan to work with their NSW counterparts to extradite some of the offenders to face charges. They confirmed those involved were aged between 10 to 20.

The same group also may have been involved in a separate altercation in the area on the same night, police said.

I bet they're in panick mode now they realise it was a cop. They'll be real tough when they're nicked, 'resist arrest' and get 'softened up'.

The cure for schoolies week:
1/ Raise the drinking age to 21 like the USA. Supply of liquor to someone UNDER 21 $1,000,000 fine.

2/The QLD gov't announce NO extra cops so kids WILL be preyed on by dirty old men.....parents be warned.

3/ The parents of any teen attacked at schoolies will recieve a $100,000 fine for neglect of parental responsibility.

4/ The parents of any teen committing a crime will be fined $500,000!

Problem solved.

Teen led gang in Qld cop attack: court

A 17-year-old girl allegedly led a "pack of animals" in a brutal gang bashing of a police officer and his girlfriend, a Queensland court has been told.

Tiani Slockee, 17, of Chinderah in northern NSW, and four juveniles from the same area, on Wednesday appeared in Southport Magistrates Court charged over the brutal bashing of a 26-year-old woman and her 27-year-old boyfriend, an off-duty police officer.

The couple were set upon by about 20 youths at Coolangatta on Saturday.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Myee Arandale alleged a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified, was the first person to kick the police officer in the head "using quite a considerable amount of force".

She said the boy then "celebrated" his alleged actions by "high-fiving the other members of the group and patting them on the back".

"It's lucky it didn't turn out worse than what it did with the attack being so brutal and savage," Snr Const Arandale said, noting the policeman was still suffering blurred vision and dizziness.

Snr Const Arandale also alleged a 15-year-old boy, convicted of a separate burglary offence earlier this month, had pulled himself up a fence to gain some extra height before "stomping" on the officer's head.

Slockee and the four juveniles, extradited from northern NSW for the court hearing on Wednesday, were all charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in company, robbery with violence in company and affray.

She and the four youths - three aged 16 and one aged 15 - were remanded in custody until February 18 for a committal hearing.

Three of the juveniles were either on probation or had breached bail at the time of the attack after having previous convictions for similar offences.

Magistrate Graeme Lee refused the five youths bail and told the court the violence was "unexplained and the level of violence was high".

"It can only be described as an indiscriminate, callous, pack-like attack from a group of youths on two innocent unsuspecting members of the public," he said.

On Tuesday, an 11-year-old boy from West Tweed Heads, NSW, faced the same court charged over the attack. He was bailed under strict conditions.

Three other youths are due to face court on Thursday over the assault.

Snr Const Arandale on Wednesday told the court Slockee instigated the attack.

She said the group surrounded the couple before they launched their "brutal and unprovoked attack".

"These people worked like a pack of animals moving in on their prey," Snr Const Arandale said.

Defence lawyer Debbie Marinov said Slockee approached the couple - who were walking on East Dutton Street, Coolangatta, about 12.50am (AEST) Saturday - when she saw them arguing.

Ms Marinov said Slockee had asked the off-duty police officer: "Doesn't she love you any more?"

The officer then made a derogatory remark and Slockee responded that she was "only joking", Ms Marinov said.

The court was told the man then made another derogatory remark and tackled one of the youths in the group to the ground.

"(Slockee) stood back in shock - she could not believe the level of violence and how it had escalated so quickly," Ms Marinov said.

Before Slockee was led away from the court into custody, the tearful girl said to her mother who had approached the dock: "I love you, mum."

A bail application for a female juvenile, alleged to have assaulted the police officer's girlfriend, will be held on Thursday morning in Southport.

Defence lawyers Ken Purdie and Lyle Parker vehemently opposed the media's access to the courtroom because four defendants were juveniles but Mr Lee dismissed their objections.
